To use it, first make sure your watch has a snug fit and place your arm on a flat surface. After you open the Samsung Health Monitor app, place your fingertip on the top button and your watch will take an ECG reading. You’ll be able to log any related symptoms you have, such as fatigue or dizziness, and send a report to your healthcare provider from a compatible Galaxy phone.
Microsoft is looking beyond flash storage and hard drives to handle the seemingly unstoppable demand for cloud storage. Yesterday at its Ignite conference, the company announced Project HSD (via ZDNet), a new research initiative that’s exploring how holographic storage could eventually be used for the cloud. And while it may sound far-fetched, the notion of holographic storage has been around since the 1960’s. But now, Microsoft thinks it may be possible to use the medium effectively thanks to the rise of smartphone cameras.
As the video above explains, holographic storage works by writing and reading data from an optical crystal. Since it’s a three-dimensional storage medium, it allows you to store a large variety of data sets within one crystal. Afterwards, it can be wiped clean with UV light and reused. Technically, this is a better solution than flash storage, which has limited read and write capabilities, and hard drives which are prone to mechanical failure.
Todoist is consistently one of our favorite to-do apps. The company is pretty good about releasing useful updates, and today it’s adding a Boards feature that should make it even easier to organize and visualize your tasks and projects.
The Boards format makes Todoist look a whole lot like Trello, another one of our favorite project management apps. The feature lets you view tasks as cards, and you can drag the cards horizontally into customizable categories. If you’re not totally sold on the format, you can switch projects back and forth between cards and traditional lists as you work.
Politicians have been poking at Section 230 for months. The DoJ doesn’t typically weigh in on legislation, but now, Barr is asking Congress to roll back critical aspects of Section 230. Not only is that unusual, it could add to speculation that some politicians are attempting to “bully tech companies into political submission,” as Senator Brian Schatz previously put it.
Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers have been looking for ways to alter Section 230 and better regulate Big Tech in general. But President Trump also seems to have a personal vendetta against social media platforms. In addition to accusing Facebook and Twitter of having an anti-conservative bias, Trump criticized Twitter after it flagged and hid one of his tweets “for making misleading health claims that could potentially dissuade people from participation in voting.” Earlier this year, shortly after Twitter hid another Trump tweet for glorifying violence, the President signed an executive order targeting social media platforms.
It’s unclear what the future holds for Section 230, but with a push from Barr and the DoJ, reform could arrive sooner rather than later.
Built on a steel frame, the ID.4 will initially be available as a 201 horsepower RWD with an estimated range of around 250 miles on a full charge of its 83 kWh battery pack. Later, in 2021, VW will begin offering a more powerful 302 horsepower, dual-motor AWD variant (though there’s no word yet on what it’s estimated range will be). Using the 11 kW onboard charger will net drivers around 33 miles of range in one hour, while using a level 1 or level 2 charger will fully refill the battery in around seven and a half hours. With a level 3 DC fast charger at your disposal, you can dump in roughly 75 percent of the battery’s capacity in just under 40 minutes. What’s more, VW has partnered with ElectrifyAmerica to offer three years of free automotive power injections at any of the company’s nationwide network of recharging stations.
The ID.4 will be available in six colors with 19-inch aluminum alloy rims and black roof rails standard. Adding the $4,500 Statement package will net you a panoramic fixed-glass roof, LED projector headlights with VW’s Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), and power-folding side mirrors. If you care to splurge on the $1,500 Gradient package, you get 20-inch wheels and a black roof with silver roof rails and accents (though it’s only available in conjunction with the Statement package.

The vehicle’s interior offers 99.9 cubic feet of storage space as well as all of the fancy bells and whistles EV automakers are stuffing into their offerings these days. The instrument cluster has been replaced by a 5.3-inch digital display that’s navigated via tactile controls on the steering wheel.
The infotainment system comes in the form of a 10-inch Discover Pro display that responds to touch, gesture (waving your hand) and voice commands. Opt for the Statement package and that display grows by two inches and adds SiriusXM compatibility. It also offers KESSY keyless access, wireless mobile charging, and Volkswagen Car-Net. This enables up to four devices to connect to the in-vehicle wifi at 4G speeds, assuming you spring for the data package subscription.
The ID.4 will also carry the usual mix of ADAS enhancements as part of its branded IQ.DRIVE system. You’ll get forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking blind spot monitors, and adaptive cruise control with lane keeping among others.
Spotify is still testing this feature, so it’s only available on a few podcasts to start. You’ll find it alongside The Rewatchables, Incredible Feats with Dan Cummins, Crime Countdown and more. During the test phase, about 90 percent of users across all markets will have access to Polls on iOS and Android devices. If you’re in the test group, you’ll see the feature at the bottom of episode pages or an episode’s Now Playing page.
Polls are already a popular feature on other platforms, and they could make podcasts more interactive. Earlier this year, Reddit introduced its own poll creation tool. Instagram has had polls since 2018, and Twitter has been allowing and refining polls for even longer.
The model on sale runs on a 10th-gen Core i5 processor, 16GB of RAM and that expanded 512GB of storage. You’ll snag the deal by combining default savings with a coupon: the laptop is on sale for $1,649, but there’s a $50 coupon on the product page that will be automatically applied at checkout. You shouldn’t have to do anything to apply the coupon, but just make sure you see those savings in your cart right before you make the purchase. It appears the extra $50 coupon is only available for the 512GB model, but the 1TB version is on sale as well for $1,849, which is $150 off its normal price.
The latest MacBook Pros came out in May and we gave the 13-inch model a score of 87. Apple brought the new Magic Keyboard over to the 13-inch Pro (it was already available on the 16-inch Pro and the MacBook Air), dramatically improving the typing experience. It’s much easier and more comfortable to type on this MacBook Pro thanks to the more traditional scissor-switch keys that have replaced the old butterfly key mechanism. We also like the bright, colorful Retina display on this laptop and its healthy 11.5-hour battery life.
There are some caveats to keep in mind, though. For one, the MacBook Pro has limited port options, including only four Thunderbolt 3 ports. We also still don’t think the TouchBar is necessary and the underside of the laptop can get hot after a while. If you can live with those compromises, this new sale is a great opportunity to upgrade your current laptop situation or invest in the latest MacBook Pro.

GSMA is promising a “unique, unmissable experience” that will be supplemented by “virtual elements to complement the overwhelming demand to convene physically.” The group said that it worked with the city of Barcelona to gain full approval of the date, and said that it will revert to a “full annual cycle” of MWC events between Shanghai, Barcelona and LA.
It’s not yet clear, however, which exhibitors will attend in June. Many, including Sony, LG, Amazon, Intel, Facebook and Nokia had dropped out from MWC 2020 before it was even officially canceled. Whether they’ll return next year likely depends on how the pandemic goes over the next six months or so.
If you don’t mind the shape, you’ll be happy to find comprehensive fitness-tracking features that Garmin’s fans love. These include sleep and constant heart rate monitoring, a blood oxygen saturation sensor, abnormal heart rate alerts, stress tracking and more. The Music Edition ($250) will also offer onboard storage for your tunes, so you can go on a run without your phone and still enjoy music in your earbuds.
The 1.3-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen and aluminum bezel make for a pleasant aesthetic, even if it is a little basic and familiar. Compared to the Venu, the Sq doesn’t have a barometer or gyro sensors, so elevation is calculated with its GPS sensor. This means you won’t be able to use the Sq to track your floors climbed or total ascent. You’ll also miss the workout animations and live watch faces that the original Venu supports.
Still, for $200, the Venu Sq offers plenty of features that you’ll find on pricier competitors like the Fitbit Sense, Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch. Garmin is not the best at smartwatch features like notifications or apps (nor at timely responses when data breaches happen), but those who want a great fitness tracker and don’t need sophisticated smartwatch tools might find the Venu Sq compelling.
In fact, the code is so powerful that OpenAI initially refused to publish research on the earlier GPT-2 model for fear it could be abused to write fake news. Despite the huge size and power of the model, it’s also surprisingly easy to use.
“Unlike most AI systems which are designed for one use-case, OpenAI’s API today provides a general-purpose ‘text in, text out’ interface, allowing users to try it on virtually any English language task. GPT-3 is the most powerful model behind the API today, with 175 billion parameters,” the company wrote in a blog about the new partnership.
This is mind blowing.
With GPT-3, I built a layout generator where you just describe any layout you want, and it generates the JSX code for you.
Microsoft wants to use GPT-3 to expand what it can offer its Azure cloud customers. “We see this as an incredible opportunity to expand our Azure-powered AI platform in a way that democratizes AI technology, enables new products, services and experiences, and increases the positive impact of AI at Scale,” said Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott. “We want to make sure that this AI platform is available to everyone — researchers, entrepreneurs, hobbyists, businesses — to empower their ambitions to create something new and interesting.”
With the deal, Microsoft has also gained access to the source code that it could integrate into its own products, according to The Verge. At the same time, OpenAI said that others can continue to use the model. “The deal has no impact on continued access to the GPT-3 model through OpenAI’s API, and existing and future users of it will continue building applications with our API as usual,” the company wrote.
