Facebook test adds Wikipedia information to search results

[ad_1]

Facebook is testing a new feature that displays factual information from Wikipedia in some search results, the company confirmed to TechCrunch. This is perhaps an attempt to keep you on Facebook instead of opening a new tab when you want to learn more about a given topic, or could be another effort to fight “fake news.” The feature was first reported by Social Media Today, which cited Twitter users who spotted it.

Now, when you enter certain topics in the Facebook search bar, results will include a box on the right hand side of the page containing snippets from the relevant topic’s Wikipedia article. The feature is similar to Google’s Knowledge Panels, which have provided more information on common searches for years now. Twitter user Matt Navarra is among those who tweeted a screenshot:

PlayStation 5 accessories include a camera and ‘3D’ headphones

[ad_1]

Sony’s PlayStation 5 won’t launch by its lonesome — there will also be a host of official (not to mention matching) accessories to go with it. To start, you can expect an HD Camera that, like its PS4 predecessor, will include dual cameras (1080p). It’s pitched as a way to show your face while you livestream games, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s used for VR and similar motion-based activities.

You can also expect a Pulse 3D wireless headset that delivers 3D audio and noise-cancelling microphones. A Media Remote is on tap for those who’ll treat their PS5 more like a media hub, and a DualSense Charging Station can top up two controllers without having to plug in a cable.

‘Hitman 3’ is coming to PS4 and PS5 in January 2021

[ad_1]

Agent 47 will take on one of his most important contracts to date when Hitman 3 arrives next January. As ever, you’ll take control of him to meticulously plan and execute assassinations (or try to kill your targets in a completely unsubtle way). IOI suggests that you’ll have new ways to explore the six locations, and you can interact with them in ways that’ll reward you in future playthroughs. Intriguing.

You’ll be able to carry over locations from the previous two games and your progression from Hitman 2 into the upcoming sequel, which will tie the World of Assassination trilogy together. “We’re very proud to have the entire trilogy all playable from within Hitman 3 and to make it the ultimate place to play any game from the trilogy,” IOI’s Travis Barbour wrote in a blog post.

‘Deathloop’ brings Dishonored-like stealth action to PS5 and PC this holiday

[ad_1]

Arkane Lyon and Bethesda are finally ready to show more of Deathloop than early teasers, and it’s good news if you still miss Dishonored. They’ve shown the first gameplay for the stealth action shooter, which is now slated to come to the PlayStation 5 (as a console exclusive, no less) in holiday 2020. You’ll play the assassin Colt as he tries to escape an island of killers by taking out eight targets and breaking a seemingly endless cycle. To do that, you’ll use a Dishonored-style mix of weapons and supernatural abilities to sneak up on enemies, mess with them and gun them down. It’s more free-form than you might be used to, with the ability to choose missions and paths as you see fit.

There’s even a multiplayer component. You can hop into someone else’s game as Julianna (above), a rival assassin who’s determined to kill Colt and protect the game’s namesake loop. It’s an optional gameplay element (you don’t have to endure other people if you prefer), but it promises to keep things fresh on top of the core game.

Demon’s Souls is getting a PS5 remake

[ad_1]

Demon’s Souls, the game that helped make From Software a household name in gaming, is getting a remake. Bluepoint Games, the same studio that handled the PlayStation 4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, is on development duties, with help from Sony’s Japan Studio. The latter worked with From Software on Bloodborne.

Demon’s Souls came out in 2009. The game’s notorious difficultly and online elements helped it grow a sizeable fanbase. While it never directly revisited the game, From Software went on to expand and polish the systems that made Demon’s Souls so compelling with Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Superbrothers’ first game in nine years takes you to outer space

[ad_1]

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP came out nearly a decade ago but its mix of eerie music, minimalistic graphics and heartbreaking story made a huge impact on players. Since then the developer has been working on a new title, and during today’s PlayStation 5 event the curtain was finally pulled back to reveal JETT: The Far Shore.

While Sword & Sworcery found you battling strange energy beings in a forest, JETT takes us to the stars and alien worlds. We’ll follow a scout named Mei as she leaves her dying civilization for space and, after a millennia, arrives on other planets to study them for potential colonization. Of course, since this is Superbrothers it’ll probably be more complicated than just simply planting a flag and building a new colony — there’s a mysterious transmission to investigate, as well as avoiding those who would try to stop you. The game is co-developed by a new studio named Pine Scented, with music by Scntfc. We’ll find out more when JETT: The Far Shore is released at the end of this year.

‘GTA V’ is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2021

[ad_1]

One of the games new PlayStation 5 owners will be able to play after the console launches this holiday season is Grand Theft Auto V. To kick off its PlayStation 5 livestream, Sony announced an enhanced and expanded port of Rockstar’s immensely popular open-world game that will launch in 2021. The company said PlayStation 5 owners will get the game’s online component, GTA Online, for free at launch. What’s more, current PS4 GTA V owners will get $1 million in GTA cash every month until the PlayStation 5 port comes out next year.

The longevity of GTA V is an impressive feat when you consider the game first launched in 2013 on the seventh generation consoles. It hasn’t lost any steam since. The allure of GTA Online has kept thousands of people playing the game to this day.

Internet Archive’s National Emergency Library to close early amid lawsuit

[ad_1]

The lawsuit, filed in a New York court by publishers Hachette Book Group, Inc., HarperCollins Publishers LLC, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and Penguin Random House LLC, alleges IA has no legal rights to distribute the books. It seeks a declaration that the IA is committing copyright infringement, injunctions to stop the IA from sharing copyrighted work and statutory damages, which could be as much as $150,000 per infringement.

In a blog post, the IA called the lawsuit a “costly assault” and defended the project. “The complaint attacks the concept of any library owning and lending digital books, challenging the very idea of what a library is in the digital world,” the post explains. IA said the library isn’t meant for piracy, but is intended for “emergency remote teaching, research activities, independent scholarship, and intellectual stimulation during the closures.”
