Apple Arcade now has 100 games

[ad_1]

Now, the Arcade has reached a milestone of 100 games available to play.

The six new games added today include Sociable Soccer, sequel to the beloved Sensible Soccer which was popular during the early ’90s. The new game, in which you collect player cards and represent your favorite club, struggled to build up interest on Kickstarter despite nostalgia for its predecessor. The sequel made it to Steam Early Access though, and from there it was snapped up to be part of the Apple Arcade.

Other new titles include UFO on Tape: First Contact, a sequel to an early iPhone game, 2010’s UFO on Tape. This AR game simulates the experience of being a UFO hunter, chasing down a strange object in the sky and recording it with a video camera.

There’s also Takeshi & Hiroshi, a puppet-based RPG staring two young brothers, Guildlings, an episodic adventure that mixes high fantasy with modern world elements, Discolored, an atmospheric puzzle adventure all about color and Marble It Up: Mayhem, a puzzle-platformer based on the popular Marble It Up! game.

Readers explain why they like Samsung’s Galaxy Buds more than we did

[ad_1]

Design

Samsung Galaxy Buds review

When it came to the physical design of the Galaxy Buds, Billy liked how the smaller size meant the buds hardly stuck out of his ears and made them more comfortable to wear. Users largely appreciated the compact size of both buds and charging case; Jeremy said he loves the case, while Jon felt it fit nicely in his pocket. Julian also found the case “light and easy to carry” and Yielar called it “nice and slim.” Zeddy described the buds’ form factor as “one of the most subtle headphones I’ve ever used” but clarified that “they might actually be too subtle as I’m approached at work all the time when on a call.”

Fit

One of the most important things about earbuds is their fit, and here users were well satisfied. RK called them “extremely comfortable,” and Babydinosaur said they “fit well into the ears, have never loosened or fallen out and don’t cause aching any more than other earphones.” Keyana declared the fit “light years ahead of the constant drill-them-into-my-ears-and-hope-for-the-best way of the IconX.” Justinc92 didn’t worry about the buds falling out, even when riding a motorcycle. Sjaak, b4ur2old and Jonathan all said they had similarly satisfying fits when exercising or at the gym. ScottPhil had one qualification: He uses Comply foam tips for isolation, “otherwise the Galaxy Buds would be unusable on my usual running routes along busy roads.”

Controls

Samsung Galaxy Buds review

While Billy felt consistently frustrated by the controls on the Galaxy Buds, none of our user reviewers felt the same. Overall, users seemed satisfied with the controls — Sjaak was pleased there were “not too many over complicated features,” and Yielar said there was everything “you’d expect including volume control.” Jon said he’s “gotten proficient with using the tap controls that handle moving through the music,” and “start/stop/pause is flawless.” Zeddy likewise said the controls worked and enjoyed the tapping action. However, Fidel Eladio noted auto pause was missing (the Galaxy Buds require users to remove both buds at the same time to activate this feature, which also irked Billy), while Justinc92 added that their only minor complaint was with the volume control.

Charging and battery life

While the Galaxy Buds charging case holds a single charge, the earbuds can also be juiced up wirelessly via Powershare. Billy listed the solid battery life as a pro in his review card, and our user reviewers agreed with him. Babydinosaur said they never found themselves wanting more battery life, and Julian said he found the charging case carries more than enough to charge the Buds fully at least once. Justinc92 appreciated the wireless charging, saying it “really comes in handy when I forget to charge them at home,” which is a common concern with wireless headphones or earbuds. Yielar really enjoyed the wireless charging since “I can simply throw them on my wireless charger as needed,” but also added that the Buds held a “decent six-hour battery life, and another seven hours worth when charging using the case.”

Sound

Samsung Galaxy Buds review

Next to fit, one of the most important aspects when reviewing earbuds is sound quality; Billy found the Galaxy Buds satisfactory but he preferred the experience with the Dynamic EQ preset on. However, the user reviewers were generally positive and even enthusiastic about the audio. Keyana found the sound richer than the IconX, Justinc92 called its quality great and Zeddy thought it was wonderful. Babydinosaur said the audio “is rich and easily heard during a journey on the noisy London Underground.” LordRahl72 said “these Samsung buds have a very nice sound to them, much better than I had originally expected they would.”

Julian said the Galaxy Buds’ excellent audio quality “can be attributed to the noise cancelling feature, which can be counteracted by turning ambient sound on.” Hector said his results varied depending on which music app he used, but that “Samsung’s wearable app combined with the Galaxy Buds” produced the best results for him. Jeremy also found the audio lacking in volume and bass. And Jon said the only thing he wanted more of was ambient noise control, as “I would have enjoyed having more of the surrounding sound piped in through the Galaxy Wearable control app.”

Samsung Galaxy Buds review

When it came to taking calls on the Galaxy Buds, results were mixed. Jon said “people have heard me talk on them and it sounds crystal clear.” However, Senita found the buds to be “pretty worthless as no one can even hear me talking on them.” RK rated the call quality “questionable at best.”

Bluetooth

Although Billy didn’t experience any pairing or connection issues when testing the Galaxy Buds, he acknowledged that some had been reported (mostly by Pixel 3XL users). This echoed the feedback from our user reviewers: While Babydinosaur said their connection had always been stable and both Philip82c and Yielar found the earbuds easily and instantly paired with their devices, others had less satisfying results. Adam called his connection “seriously disappointing,” adding you should “forget about walking around or even putting your phone in your pocket and getting good sound. If you move at all it cuts in and out to the point where you can’t listen to the music.” ScottPhil said Bluetooth issues are the reason he didn’t rate the Galaxy Buds higher: “I wear my phone on the front of my body two feet from the Buds. If I move my hand between the phone and the Buds or bend at the waist too much I lose signal.” Fidel Eladio was more succinct, saying the Bluetooth connection “is garbage.”

Comparison

Samsung Galaxy Buds review

Although the Galaxy Buds were clearly intended to compete with Apple’s Airpods, they don’t work well within the competitor’s ecosystem. But when compared to other wireless options, most of our users were pleasantly surprised. Keyana was thrilled at the improvements made in the Buds from Samsung’s previous IconX earbuds. LordRahl72, who previously used Ultimate Ears TripleFi headphones, was impressed by how close the Galaxy Buds came to the sound quality of the pricier pair. Philip82c found the Galaxy Buds superior to the Jabra Elite Sport buds in fit while wearing a motorcycle helmet, as well as in connectivity and battery life. Only b4ur2old dissented, saying the Galaxy Buds didn’t sound as good as the wired AKG buds that came with their S10, and they would recommend the Samsung earbuds only if “you already own a Samsung phone.”

Wrap-up

While a few users had some small quibbles, the majority were happy with their purchase. Keyana said that “honestly, this year’s Galaxy Buds are the very best truly wireless earbuds that I’ve ever owned. Excellent, excellent purchase on my part and an even better product on Samsung’s.” LordRahl72 said they find themselves using the buds “more often for the simple ease of use and added functionality. I would easily recommend these for anyone wanting good sounding easy fitting wireless buds without breaking the bank in the process.” Justinc92 said they “love the Samsung Galaxy Buds; I use them every day all day,” a sentiment that was seconded by ScottPhil who’s used them daily for five months for exercise and yard work. Yielar said they’re “overall very happy with the Samsung Buds and I do recommend them.” Overall, Philip82c said the Galaxy Buds are a “great value and quality for the price.”

Multitasking is back to normal.Apple releases another iOS 13 update to fix background app issues

You didn’t have to wait too long for Apple to fix iOS 13.2’s over-eagerness to kill background apps. The iOS 13.2.2 update should help stop apps from closing quite so quickly — much like they did before 13.2 arrived. This should mean less need to restart resource-intensive streaming services and games as you swap between messaging and other apps.

But that doesn’t make it a good game.‘Death Stranding’ is a great movie

Hideo Kojima builds cinematic games. His projects are visually ambitious, narratively complex and cutscene-heavy, dripping with references to the vaults of Alfred Hitchcock, George Romero and Orson Welles. Kojima is transparent about his obsession with film and how it influences his creative process.

Not to mention fan service — have you seen the guy’s Twitter? Death Stranding is a game that’s been a long time coming, with numerous trailers, promotions, Hollywood stars and the rest. Jessica Conditt tackles Kojima’s new opus and attempts to square whether it’s meant to be a movie or a game.

Better performance and better looking this time around.Google Nest WiFi review: A solid mesh network with built-in Assistant

Google’s updated mesh WiFi gear is great for novice users looking to set up and forget about their wireless network. However, power users may find it’s missing a few features and new technology like WiFi 6, and while the Nest WiFi’s built-in voice assistant is convenient, it also adds some privacy concerns.

But wait, there’s more…

Apple confirms its launch TV+ series will return for second seasons

[ad_1]

The outlets also noted, citing anonymous sources close to Apple, that the company is “thrilled” with the show’s performances so far, and the unspecified millions of viewers who watched during their first weekend available and beyond. New episodes for all of the shows became available Friday morning, and their first seasons will continue to roll out over the coming weeks. The next new original series to debut on Apple TV+ will be M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant, which is schedule to premiere on November 28th.

As pre-planned as it may be, the show of support is important, with Disney+ just days away from launch, and content continuing to roll out from competitors like Hulu and Netflix. That’s in addition to mostly-lukewarm reviews (from critics at least, as fan ratings on Rotten Tomatoes range from 83 percent for See to 95 percent for The Morning Show), and Apple moving into a space where it has almost no experience. Back when Netflix started streaming original content like Lilyhammer, House of Cards and Hemlock Grove, it also quickly picked up additional seasons.

With Apple TV+ opting for week-by-week rollouts instead of dropping off new seasons all at once, we’ll see if viewers stick around — whether it’s on a free trial or not — to see what comes next.

Microsoft brings its old OneNote app back from the dead

[ad_1]

According to The Verge, the features coming to the app include @mentions for OneNote inside of Microsoft Teams, search integration to make it easier to find stuff inside notes, Tasks and To Do integration, as well as some accessibility features. Those will make their way to the desktop application over the next year-and-a-half, with @mentions becoming available within the first half of 2020. Plus, Microsoft has announced that OneNote is part of its Fluid Framework plans. The company’s Fluid Framework technology will let you create files that can be many different formats at once, and Microsoft promises to preview OneNote in Fluid next year.

It’s not entirely clear what’ll happen to the OneNote app for Windows 10. Microsoft Product Manager Mike Tholfsen revealed on Twitter that there “will still be a Desktop and separate Windows 10 app.” The company may shift its focus to the 2016 version, though: In its previous announcement, it said Office 365 desktop installs will automatically include OneNote 2016 starting in March. It also said that it will support the desktop application until 2025, thanks to user feedback.

Volkswagen’s ID Space Vizzion is an electrified station wagon

[ad_1]

The company has debuted the model just after presenting the first all-electric ID.3 produced at its Zwickau plant. It’s been giving the factory a makeover, so that it can transition from manufacturing VW’s electric golf carts to manufacturing its EVs. Volkswagen expects to be done with the transition by 2022 — the plant will then be dedicated to building its MEB vehicles, perhaps including the Space Vizzion. It will, however, initially focus on the ID.3 (the first production EV based on the MEB platform) followed by the ID.4.

Yes, the wagon is just a concept for now — and its renders look pretty far out — but the automaker promises that it will be a real vehicle you can buy. It plans to release the model’s production version in 2021 and to design different versions for North America, Europe and China. For now, the company is preparing to showcase the concept at the L.A. Auto Show, which starts on November 19th.

Juul stops selling mint-flavored vapes

[ad_1]

Juul will stop selling mint-flavored vape products in the US. The company says it’s pulling mint pods from its website, as well as no longer taking new orders from retailers. As of this article, the company only sells three flavors: Classic tobacco, Virginia tobacco and menthol.

Juul says it made the decision based on a study that came out this week that found mint-flavored vapes are popular among middle and high school students in the US. However, the company declined to comment on why it plans to continue selling menthol-flavored vapes when Bloomberg pointed out that the same study found both mint and menthol flavors were popular among youth.

The move comes after Juul stopped selling fruit-flavored vapes on its website last month. Echoing a statement he’d made at that time, new Juul CEO (and former tobacco exec) K.C. Crosthwaite said today that “These results are unacceptable and that is why we must reset the vapor category in the U.S. and earn the trust of society by working cooperatively with regulators, Attorneys General, public health officials, and other stakeholders to combat underage use. We will support the upcoming FDA flavor policy and will follow the PMTA process.”

Earlier today, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) said that the number of vaping-related lung injuries in US is up to 2,051. Cases of vaping-related lung illnesses have come up in 49 states, which, combined with rising use among youths has lead a variety of regulators to look into a ban of vapes — the Trump Administration is expected to announce a temporary ban on flavored e-cigarettes as soon as this week.

Adobe will add livestreaming to apps so designers can share their skills

[ad_1]

The streaming function seems simple enough; users just hit a button to start broadcasting and receive a link they can share with anyone who wants to watch them work. Viewers can also comment and ask questions. The ability to watch a Creative Cloud expert at work could be helpful for a variety of use cases. Currently, many digital artists use services like Skillshare and Patreon to teach skills and earn some extra income, something they could do right in Adobe’s apps going forward. Being able to stream a workflow and take real-time questions will be a big draw for both instructors and learners. Professional designers, editors and animators can stream to clients and get instant feedback. Freelancers could also collaborate more smoothly with partners, reducing back-and-forth file swapping and revisions.

Adobe is currently beta testing its streaming technology with select users of Adobe Fresco, an iPad app that mimics real-life media like oil paints and charcoals. This new feature and Adobe’s other “sneaks” cap a busy week of news from the company, headlined by the long-awaited iPad version of Photoshop hitting the app store. The company is also releasing a mobile version of Illustrator, which will arrive in 2020; both those apps will presumably work with these new livestreaming features when they become more widely available. We’ve reached out for more details and will update the post if we hear back from Adobe.

EVs outsold manual transmission cars in the US last quarter

[ad_1]

Around 1.1 percent of car buyers opted for cars with clutch pedals in Q3, while 1.9 percent chose an EV. J.D. Power exec Tyson Jominy suggested to Driving.ca that declining manual transmission sales were down to “the discontinuation of many compact and sub-compact sedans.” Those were often seen as a cheaper way to buy a new car.

The data indicates that, while some automakers still offer manual transmissions, they tend to be found in performance or niche vehicles than mass-market cars. As Jominy suggests, manual transmissions have been on the outs for quite some time. EVs were able to bypass them in sales within around a decade of debuting.

Environmental concerns and more affordable EVs making their way into showrooms might be other factors in folks opting for an electric car over one with a clutch pedal. If interest in manual transmissions continues to decline, it’s not hard to imagine that automakers will stop making them at any real scale. Still, all may not be lost if you want the best of both worlds: Ford just revealed a “one-off” electric Mustang with a gear stick.
