Still, that’s $8 more than this bundle. You can also always purchase the earphones directly from Apple’s website, but a pair with AppleCare+ will set you back $278, or $48 more than B&H’s limited-time combo offer.

Apple released the AirPods Pro almost a year ago in October 2019. They’re a true wireless earbud model with built-in H1 chip, hands-free Siri, active noise cancellation, transparency mode and on-board controls. For people who have ear shapes not suited for the regular AirPods, though, the Pro’s new design and silicone ear tips are probably its best features. The earbuds, which boast better sound quality than their predecessors, are also sweat and water resistant.

We called the AirPods Pro Apple’s best true wireless earbuds to date in our review and gave them a score of 87. Like any other device in the category, though, they’re easy to drop and lose, especially if you also use them while exercising. AppleCare+ lets you replace a damaged earbud or charging case for $29 per incident instead of having to pay full price for them. You can avail of the plan’s reduced pricing for two incidents within two years, since it also extends Apple’s typical one—year warranty. In addition, it also gets you battery service coverage and express access to the company’s tech-support desk.

Sony’s stellar WF-1000XM3 are still near the top of our list, but the true wireless earbud industry has changed a lot since their introduction. The M3s offer powerful ANC that automatically adjusts based on your activity, or thanks to a recent update, your location. The sound is also excellent and touch controls work reliably. Heck you can even find these on sale for well under $200 if you keep an eye out. However, they are big and bulky — sticking out of your ears like antennae. They lack the comfort of some of our other picks. While Sony packed in a ton of features here, the M3 has a lot more competition now.

Sure, there are cheaper options, but for $80, it’s hard to beat the Anker Soundcore Spirit Dot 2. These true wireless earbuds are smaller than a lot of the competition which makes them more comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. Anker also delivers ample bass here, which means they can handle hip-hop, electronic and other genres that rely on low-end. They’re also IXP7 rated, so they’ll easily double as your new workout partner.

There’s no denying that AirPods are extremely popular among iPhone owners. And there’s a good reason. The earbuds integrate seamlessly with iOS. Plus, the more recent models offer hands-free access to Siri, on top of core features like quick pairing. In addition to active noise cancellation, the AirPods Pro have one very important thing the “regular” AirPods don’t: comfort. And when you factor in the spatial audio improvements in iOS 14, the Pro model is well worth the extra investment at this point.

Google’s first set of Pixel Buds were largely a bust. They weren’t true wireless, and overall, they felt incomplete. The company went back to the drawing board for its 2020 model — ditching the cord entirely and further integrating with Google Assistant. The Adaptive Sound feature that’s meant to be a stand-in for ANC isn’t great and you can find several options with better battery life. However, for the price, Pixel Buds offer solid sound quality, a comfy fit and direct access to Assistant the Android faithful will find useful.

Billy Steele/Engadget

Sennheiser made quite the leap from its first true wireless earbuds to version 2.0. The company figured out the touch controls, extended the battery life and added active noise cancellation. The Momentum True Wireless 2 is also the best sounding set of true wireless earbuds we’ve tested. As we noted during our review, Sennheiser consistently creates an audio profile that highlights minute details of songs, from the subtle attack of acoustic guitar strumming to the deep sub of synths and drum machines. The company’s trademark tone is warm, pleasant and inviting. The downside is these are pricey at around $300 and you can find better battery life (and wireless charging) elsewhere. In terms of pure audio quality though, this is the clear top pick.

Honorable mention: Samsung Galaxy Buds+

Billy Steele/Engadget

The Galaxy Buds Live might be the hot new thing, but the Galaxy Buds+ are actually Samsung’s best option. The company went all-in with iOS integration this time around, which means iPhone owners are privy to the many of the same features and customization options as users with Galaxy devices or Android phones. The tiny size of the Galaxy Buds+ makes them comfy to wear for hours, and the affordable price won’t break the bank.

Buy Galaxy Buds+ at Amazon – $130

The latest firmware update for Apple’s AirPods Pro and second—generation AirPods has arrived, and it brings at least a couple of much-awaited features with it. For the AirPods Pro, build number 3A283 debuts spatial audio, which enables a surround sound effect for a movie theater-like experience. The tech giant didn’t release a feature log for the firmware, but AppleInsider was able to confirm it adds a spatial audio setting within the AirPods Pro bluetooth menu.

When switched on, the earbuds’ accelerometer will track your head movement so the audio stays fixed even when you turn your head. Apple first revealed that it’s releasing spatial audio for the Pro earbuds back in June during its virtual WWDC keynote, where it also announced that it’s rolling out an AirPods feature that gives you the ability to automatically switch between Apple devices. That’s the other capability that comes with firmware 3A283.

This is the lowest price we’ve seen, making it a good opportunity to grab Apple’s top-of-the-line earbuds. We gave them a score of 87 for their solid sound quality, excellent active noise cancellation and IPX4 water-resistant design.

These are the AirPods with the standard wireless charging case, so it’s a bit of a bummer if you were hoping to get the case that supports wireless charging. Nevertheless, these buds earned a score of 84 from us for their improved wireless performance and solid battery life.

B&H Photo has it for $250 off, bringing this particular model to $1,599. It runs on a 10th-gen Core i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and NVIDIA’s RTX 2070 GPU with Max-Q. It also has a 1080p, 240Hz display, so you’re almost guaranteed a smooth gaming experience regardless of what you’re playing. Just keep in mind that this is the previous model of the Legion 7; Lenovo recently announced new gaming laptops with slight upgrades. We gave these true wireless earbuds a score of 73, with our favorite features being hands-free Alexa controls, Bose active noise reduction technology and a number of customizable features. However, the sound quality isn’t the greatest and the battery life is less than what other wireless earbuds are capable of. But if you’re on a strict budget and like the idea of having Alexa at your beck and call wherever you go, this deal on the Echo Buds is a good one to consider.

The Galaxy Fit fitness tracker dropped to $50 at Best Buy, which is an impressive 50 percent off its normal price. It’s a great basic fitness tracker, with perks like a color AMOLED display and a week’s worth of battery life. Not only does it track daily activity, but it has dozens of workout profiles to choose from and some auto-tracking capabilities. It’s worth noting that Galaxy Fit 2 was just announced earlier this week. That said, we don’t know when it’ll be available and it’ll probably cost at least $100 when it ships.

Amazon has a great sale on Segway’s Ninebot ES2 electric scooter. It’s $189 off right now, bringing the final price down to $399. When we first covered it, there was an additional $90 coupon available, which brought the price down to $309. However, the coupon has since disappeared, but the $399 sale price is the best standalone discounted price we’ve seen on this scooter. While electric scooters aren’t for everyone, they can be convenient ways to get across town or run errands if you live in a big city, dense suburb or even on a college campus.

If you need an external drive for the new school year, Samsung’s latest T7 portable SSD is on sale — $80 for the 500GB model. This is the newest version of the company’s popular credit card-sized SSD, but alas, it’s not the T7 Touch model that has a fingerprint sensor for biometric security. However, the standard T7 is still a secure device thanks to its password protection software and shock-resistant body. It’s also nearly twice as fast as the T5 model, with read and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s.

Buy T7 SSD (500GB) on Amazon – $80 Buy T7 SSD (500GB) on Best Buy – $80

DJI Osmo Mobile 3

After DJI released the new OM4 smartphone gimbal, Amazon knocked the price of the Osmo Mobile 3 down to $98. That’s roughly $20 off its normal price and over $50 less than the new OM4. Both gimbals are pretty similar, but the OM4 adds a new magnetic phone mounting system to the device that’s a bit easier to use than the standard clamp grip. However, if you can live without it, you’ll get mostly the same experience (for much less money) if you opt for the Osmo Mobile 3.

New deal additions

Satechi Labor Day sale

Through Monday, September 7, you can get 15 percent off Satechi products on the company’s website and Amazon by using the code SATLDAY15 at checkout. Satechi makes solid computer and mobile accessories including hubs and adapters, mice, keyboards and more. Since these products tend to be on the expensive side, this sale is your chance to grab some accessories for less. We’re partial to Satechi’s keyboards (both wired and Bluetooth) and its collection of USB-C adapters.

Fire TV Edition smart TVs

Also through September 7, many Fire TV Edition smart TVs are on sale, with some as low as $99. These TVs use Amazon’s Fire TV OS as their smart interface, similarly to how Roku TVs get their smarts from Roku OS. It’s a good opportunity to get a new TV for cheap if you’ve wanted to replace a “dumb” set in your home with a smart one.

The 55-inch model in Hisense’s H65 series of Android smart TVs is down to $280 at Best Buy, or $120 off its normal price. We’ve recommended smaller models in the H65 series before, but this is a great price for a larger 4K version. Android TV may take some getting used to if you’re not familiar with it, but it’s a capable smart TV OS with built-in Google Cast and voice control capabilities via the Google Assistant.

One of Vantrue’s most advanced dash cams, the N2 Pro dual dash cam, is on sale for $119 on Amazon. To get the discounted price, clip the $30 coupon on the product page and then use the code 8YNZVG96 at checkout to get an additional $50 off. This dash cam records video in up to 1440p (front camera only) and monitors both the road in front of you and the inside of your car while you’re driving. It also has night vision that makes dark footage more clear as well as loop recording and G-sensor auto saving.

AirPods are designed to work best with iOS devices, but Samsung’s Galaxy Buds+ work well on both iOS and Android. The Galaxy Buds+ are discounted to $130 at Amazon as part of a Samsung sales event, and they’re a great alternative if AirPods aren’t your style, or you’re an Android user that wants affordable true wireless earbuds that pack a lot of value. Not only do the Galaxy Buds+ sound good, but they’re smaller than many other wireless earbuds and that makes them more comfortable to wear for hours on end. The new iOS app makes them easier to use with Apple devices, and they even come with a wireless charging case at no extra cost.

Samsung released this version of its credit-card sized SSD earlier this year, and while it doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor like the T7 Touch does, it’s still a secure device thanks to its shock-resistant body and password protection software.
The Osmo Mobile 3 dropped to $98 on Amazon just one day after DJI announced the newest version of its smartphone gimbal, the OM4. Luckily, there aren’t many differences between the model on sale and the new $150 version. The biggest thing is that the OM4 lets you attach your smartphone magnetically to the gimbal, whereas the Osmo Mobile 3 has a traditional clamp mount. If you can live without that newfound convenience, the Osmo Mobile 3 is an excellent gimbal that’s capable of shooting 15 hours of video before needing a recharge and it’s compact enough to neatly fit into a small bag. Not only is the gimbal itself on sale, but you can get a combo kit with that includes bunch of accessories for $20 off as well.

New deal additions

Google Home Mini 2-pack

Walmart has a bundle that includes two Google Home Mini smart speakers plus a four-month free trial of the music streaming service Tidal for $40. That price is great for the two smart speakers alone, but the Tidal subscription sweetens the deal, especially if you’ve been interested in giving it a shot. While, yes, these are the older versions of the current Nest Mini smart speaker, the two devices are quite similar. You won’t be missing out on any major features by opting for the Google Home Mini, although the Nest Mini does sound a bit better thanks to hardware improvements that Google made.

Buy Google Home Mini (2-pack) at Walmart – $40

Roku Streaming Stick+

Roku’s Streaming Stick+ is down to $40 at Best Buy, which is $10 off its normal price. While not the lowest it’s ever been, it’s a good sale that we see only every couple of months. This tiny stick will turn any TV into a smart one with Roku’s operating system and the included remote that supports voice commands. It also supports streaming content in 4K — as long as you hook it up to a 4K TV. If Amazon’s Fire OS is more your speed, the Fire TV Stick 4K is also on sale right now for $40.

The AirPods Pro have become more valuable in the months since. Apple has promised major upgrades to the buds later in 2020, including spatial audio and automatic Apple device switching. You can get immersive sound when watching a movie on your iPad, or take a call from your iPhone even when you’ve been listening to music on your Mac.

Much of what we said in our review holds true, though. The AirPods Pro offer definite steps up in sound quality, fit, water resistance and Siri control over standard AirPods. If you’re going to wear AirPods during workouts, these are the buds to get.

However, they’re not flawless. They don’t have the best audio quality in the category (we would lean toward options like Sony’s WF-1000XM3), and you might not be a fan of their touch controls or buried settings. The Powerbeats Pro might also be better if you want Apple-made buds made with fitness primarily in mind. Even so, the AirPods Pro offer a good overall mix of quality and comfort, and the pending upgrades might tip the balance if you’re already invested in the Apple ecosystem.

The active noise cancellation also gained its share of accolades, with David noting they “do a great job all around on this front. They perform great at blocking out traffic when you’re walking down the street, or for drowning out background noise at a restaurant. They’re only somewhat okay for reducing engine noise on flights, but still much improved from the non-Pros for use during air travel.” Zee agreed, saying that while the ANC was “not the best” at least “with music on I can’t hear the things around me unless they were super loud. I can finally focus at work, enjoy music, and have a device that works out of the box.” Joseph put the noise cancellation to the ultimate test, saying he “stood on the tarmac directly in front of a parking 737 and barely heard a din from the engines with it on.”

Unfortunately, good noise isolation and cancellation really depends on getting a firm seal with the earbuds, and for many that’s where the AirPods Pro faltered in spite of their new design. James said they felt “like they are always about to fall out,” and that they offered him no sound isolation, making them “unsuitable for use on public transit, trains, airplanes, or other noisy environments.” Lewis found that the “sound quality is not good when the buds don’t remain in your ear as you move. They are more for sitting in place with very little movement.”

Billy Steele / Engadget

Even if they didn’t comment on the sound quality, a poor fit was common among users. Steve said “I have tried all the sizes and just sitting in the chair can’t get a good seal — with any of them! And if I get up and move around? They fall out.” Rob found himself “repeatedly pushing them back into my ears. There is no possibility that I could exercise with them or conveniently wear them anytime my hands and fingers are gloved or otherwise full.” David even experienced them falling out when he was “sitting perfectly still and just talking, using the Pros as a hands free headset.”

The Ear Tip Fit Test that Apple introduced with the Pro model didn’t do much good, with Adam reporting that even after doing a proper fitting, “the ear tips lose grip of the wall of my ear canals within a single day.” Many users ended up buying additional accessories to help with the fit, though Elliott0870 noted that having extra parts attached to his AirPods Pro are “a pain when I want to return the pods to the charging box.”

Billy Steele / Engadget

Another recurring problem among readers was an “extremely annoying crackling noise” that Yianni said happens “when you talk while you are on the noise cancellation mode and gets worse over time.” Jdouglas22 also mentioned a crackle “that you hear from loud bass,” while Rashid described it as “a rattling sound.” Scott theorized that it might be “feedback when in noise-canceling mode.” Most of the affected users mentioned contacting Apple for a replacement, only to find the new ones would develop the problem as well.

In terms of customer service and ease of use Apple has always gotten high marks, and the most of the AirPods Pro’s accolades were in this department. Burt said the convenience was great, and Elliott0870 specifically said he loved the “ease that they pair between my iPhone 11 Max and my Apple TV 4K.” Krunchi found that “the integration into iOS has made it a terrific purchase,” but also added that they didn’t “think this would be worth it for anyone not utilizing an iOS device.” Cp3 was even more blunt, saying that “The synergy between AirPods and iOS devices compensate for an otherwise MAYBE average set of headphones.”

Billy Steele / Engadget

Ultimately, readers were mixed on how they felt about the AirPods Pro as a complete package. jimr_1234567890 called them “a start for anyone who does not know any better. Overpriced for basic standards. It is the price ratio that negatively impacts all the points. Equal or better products exist for a better price.” Burt said the “convenience is great, sound quality is passable, but overall it just doesn’t feel like an Apple product (which to me normally means one that’s overall designed well enough to overlook the shortcomings — great in one or two class leading categories if not best in all).” Joseph probably summed it all up the best, admitting that while “there may be better options in general from Bose or Sony … the Apple integration coupled with the active noise cancellation, ergonomics, and compact packaging push the AirPod Pros well above for Apple users.”

AirPods Pro are the best AirPods to get not only because they have better sound quality than Apple’s standard earbuds, but also because they fit better. Their design might be polarizing, but the included ear tips of different sizes ensure they’ll fit in your ears and create a good seal. That also makes them more comfortable and their IPX4 water-resistant design will keep them protected even if they fall out of your ears and into a puddle.

Apple’s premium earbuds also have active noise-cancellation that, thanks to the built-in H1 chip, automatically adjusts to the sounds in your environment. Whenever you need to jump into a conversation while wearing them, you can use touch controls to activate Transparency mode so you can hear what’s going on around you. The H1 chip also helps the AirPods Pro quickly and easily pair with iPhones, and switch between it and other Apple devices depending on which you’re using.

The regular AirPods also use this technology, so you’ll get the same seamless pairing-and-switching experience if you choose those instead. The $129 sale price is only $1 more than the lowest we’ve seen them, so they’re worth grabbing if you are on a budget and have yet to snag a pair of AirPods. They had decent audio quality and fit similarly to the EarPods that came with past iPhone models — if those fit well in your ears, regular AirPods likely will, too.

Apple’s smallest tablet remains on sale starting at $350 at Amazon. You can grab the base, WiFi iPad mini for that price, or get it with 256GB of storage for $500. The size of the iPad mini has gleaned it a loyal following — it’s similar in size to a paperback book or an e-reader, making it easily to travel with and much more compact than any other iPad. We gave the latest model a score of 85 for its great performance, improved display and new support for the first-generation Apple Pencil.

While not the lowest they have ever been, AirPods Pro sales are few and far between so this one is worth taking advantage of if you have been eyeing the earbuds. We gave them a score of 87 for their improved fit, better audio quality, solid noise-cancellation and convenient hands-free Siri controls.

It doesn’t have more advanced features like an always-on display or ECG measurements like the Series 5 does, but it has all of the standard Apple Watch features that you’d expect. In addition to having built-in heart rate and GPS monitors, it also tracks daily activities and workouts well, delivers smartphone alerts to your wrist, lets you use your wrist to checkout with Apple Pay and more. We gave it a score of 82 thanks to those features plus its good performance and battery life.

Bose improved upon the already solid features in its QuietComfort line in these headphones, and we gave them a score of 90 for their modern design, comfortable cups and great battery life. Noise-cancellation customization lets you choose a level of silence from 0 to 10 and a total of eight microphones carries your voice loud and clear when you make a phone call with the headphones.

Microsoft

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 3 dropped to a starting price of $800 this week and you can save hundreds on different models. The $800 base model includes a 10th-gen Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage — those are just-OK specs for a flagship laptop, but the price is a decent one if you want to spend less than $1,000 on a new notebook. We prefer the higher-end model with a 10th-gen Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage that’s on sale for $1,250. That’s a much better value for your money and it will serve most people well as their daily driver.

These affordable Sony cans are even better now that they’re on sale for $128 at Amazon and Best Buy. they made it into our best wireless headphone guide thanks to the luxury features they provide at a budget-friendly price. Their normal price of $200 may not seem affordable, but considering some ANC headphones cost twice as much, they’re a good value even when not on sale. The WH-CH710Ns have solid noise-cancellation, decent sound quality and killer battery life of up to 35 hours.

New Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can get an Echo Dot for only $0.99 when they sign up for two months of the service. That brings the bundle to $21, and that’s the best price we’ve ever seen for an Echo Dot. It’s a deal worth snagging if you’ve had your eye on Amazon’s tiny smart speaker, and you can use it to as Alexa to play tracks and playlists from Music Unlimited. After two months, the Music Unlimited subscription will automatically renew at $10 per month, so keep that in mind if you end up wanting to cancel.

Fujifilm’s latest sale remains ongoing and it knocks hundreds off of the prices of some mirrorless cameras and accompanying lenses. A number of lenses are on sale as well, including the XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR, which earned a spot in our mirrorless camera lens guide.
