Thirty minutes of leaked gameplay footage from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is circulating around the internet, despite Ubisoft’s attempts to remove the videos.

The game isn’t scheduled to arrive until this holiday season, and the two trailers Ubisoft released so far don’t include gameplay footage. The leak offers a grainy glimpse of the main character Eivor traveling on horseback through villages, navigating a longboat across open water, killing wolves and busting into a castle. There’s plenty of combat to watch, and at the end of the mission, Eivor must decide whether to kill or save the castle’s owner.

On July 12th, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla publisher Ubisoft will host its first-ever “digital conference” to give fans a look at its latest games. Dubbed Ubisoft Forward, the company says the “E3-style showcase” will feature “exclusive game news, exciting reveals and much more.” The Sunday stream will start at 3PM ET / 12 PM PT.

Ubisoft is now one of several companies that plans to make up for the cancellation of E3 2020 with a digital event. The timing of Ubisoft Forward will likely put it in close proximity to Microsoft’s July Xbox 20/20 showcase where we’ll see gameplay footage of the company’s first-party exclusives.  

Microsoft’s first Xbox 20/20 stream, which will showcase gameplay from upcoming third-party Xbox Series X games, starts at 11AM ET. You can watch the entire Inside Xbox live stream below or follow along as we write about the latest news to come out of the event.

As for what you can expect to see, we know Ubisoft will share footage of Assassin’s Creed Vahalla in action. Beyond that, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer tweeted the company will show off several brand new games, from “studios large and small,” during the stream. That said, don’t expect to see any first-party gameplay reveals; Microsoft plans to show games like Halo Infinite later this year.

Following a full-day livestream, we now have a better idea of when and where the next game in Ubisoft’s long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise will take place. In Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, you’ll play an assassin at some point during the Viking Age, which took place between 793 and 1066 CE.

Publisher and developer Ubisoft picked the unconventional route of announcing the new game through a Photoshop livestream. An artist slowly and painstakingly built out the image you see above while fans speculated about the setting and classic songs from the series like “Ezio’s Family” played in the background. At one point in the stream, more than 50,000 people across Twitch and YouTube tuned in to watch artist Kode Abdo work his craft.
