NBC’s Peacock streaming service will start streaming its entire back catalog of Saturday Night Live episodes on October 1st, according to Deadline and Variety. Once all 45 seasons of SNL make their way to Peacock, it will mark the first time the entire run of the sketch comedy show has been available to watch in one place.

Peacock currently has some of Saturday Night Live’s most famous episodes, particularly ones involving notable past guests like Chris Farley. You can also watch seasons one through five and seasons 30 through to 45 on Hulu, but that means you miss on the show’s 80s run with Eddie Murphy.  

As expected, Amazon just announced a new low-cost streaming media player. When the Fire TV Stick Lite becomes available later this month, it will set you back a mere $30. For that price, you get a streaming device that supports Full HD playback with HDR and comes with a redesigned Alexa Voice Remote that skips on volume and power buttons.

Amazon is also refreshing the original Fire TV Stick, which was discontinued recently. According to Amazon, the $40 device features a quad-core processor that is 50 percent more powerful than the one in the company’s previous model. It also features support for HD streaming, HDR, Dolby Atmos (but no Dolby Vision) and support for dual-band 802.11ac WiFi. For that extra $10, you also get a remote that includes TV controls. Like the Fire TV Stick Lite, it will be available later this month.

When you switch countries, your language settings won’t change as well, so need to worry about getting lost in the interface. Besides localized recommendations for music, podcasts and audiobooks, you’ll see any local shows that are set to take place in that country.

You can switch regions through Deezer’s settings menu. The feature is available through both the mobile and web apps, as well as all the 180 countries in which you can subscribe to the service. While a feature like this probably won’t give Deezer an advantage in its battle with giants like Spotify, it’s a nifty feature if you’re already a subscriber.

If you own a Vizio TV, you may have felt left out watching sets from manufacturers like Samsung and LG get access to Apple TV. But now you too can use the software on your television. Starting today, the Apple TV app — through which you can access Apple TV+ — is available on Vizio SmartCast TVs in the US and Canada (via Variety). If you’re new to Apple TV+ and own a Vizio SmartCast TV with SmartCast Home from 2016 or later, you can get three free months when you sign up for the streaming service.  

Besides allowing you to watch originals like Greyhound and The Morning Show, you can also use the TV app to subscribe to premium networks like Showtime and Starz through Apple’s Channels feature. With the company’s family sharing system, up to six people in a household can share a single Apple TV channel subscription. The TV app also allows you to buy and rent movies and TV shows.  

When Teenage Engineering started teasing it was working on a “magic apparatus,” people got understandably excited. After all, this is the company that has released some of the most offbeat but capable synths (and IKEA products) in the last couple of years, and it said it had been working on this device for the past six years. There was even hope we might see an update to the company’s original OP-1 synth, which came out in 2011. But Teenage Engineering fans may not get their wish. 

Thanks to a Japanese regulatory filing, we know TE’s next product is a Bluetooth speaker called the OB-4. The document doesn’t say much about what features we can expect from the device, but it does include photos. For what it’s worth, TE said the speaker is “great for the outdoors,” but then that’s the type of claim most companies make when promoting a Bluetooth speaker. 

After news broke of Chadwick Boseman’s passing last week, ABC aired a special tribute to the late actor during the episode of its 20/20 show the Sunday after. If you missed it the first time around, you can now catch Chadwick Boseman: A Tribute For A King on Disney+, according to the streaming service.

Disney+ is also the home of some of Boseman’s shows like Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. According to Deadline, ABC’s special tribute features testimony from castmates like Robert Downey Jr, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo. Avengers director Joe Anthony Russo, Marvel chief Kevin Feige, Disney executive Chairman Bob Iger as well as Kamala Harris, Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg also shared their memories.

According to Variety, Netflix doesn’t plan to produce a third season of Altered Carbon. Citing a source with “knowledge of the decision,” Variety reports Netflix canned the show for one of its usual reasons. The company didn’t see the series build enough an audience to justify its production budget. Netflix canceled another lavishly produced sci-fi series, the Wachowskis’ Sense8, for the same reason. Deadline adds that the coronavirus pandemic, which played a part in the recent cancellation of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This, didn’t factor into the decision.   

Netflix released the second season of the series, which stared Anthony Mackie as protagonist Takeshi Kovacs, in February following an almost two-year gap between the first season in 2018. In March, it also released an anime spinoff called Altered Carbon: Resleeved.  

“Once upon a time, children’s music was restricted to lullabies and play-songs that were passed down from generation to generation — or sometimes recited by a cheerful purple dinosaur,” the company says. “These days, the choices are endless. Children’s music has undergone a dramatic shift. Now it’s just great music the entire family loves.”

According to the company, the Kids and Family genre is one of the fastest-growing on Apple Music. In the past four weeks, Apple has seen a 105 percent increase in the amount of time people have spent listening to associated content. So it’s easy to see why it has decided to furnish the section with attention. Moreover, Apple says it considers the update as a way it can help families cope with the ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic. We saw Apple try to do something similar earlier in the year when the company introduced its AI-generated Get Up! Mix. And then again when debuted its Come Together space, which collects all of the company’s upbeat playlists in one place.

The AirPods Pro have become more valuable in the months since. Apple has promised major upgrades to the buds later in 2020, including spatial audio and automatic Apple device switching. You can get immersive sound when watching a movie on your iPad, or take a call from your iPhone even when you’ve been listening to music on your Mac.

Much of what we said in our review holds true, though. The AirPods Pro offer definite steps up in sound quality, fit, water resistance and Siri control over standard AirPods. If you’re going to wear AirPods during workouts, these are the buds to get.

However, they’re not flawless. They don’t have the best audio quality in the category (we would lean toward options like Sony’s WF-1000XM3), and you might not be a fan of their touch controls or buried settings. The Powerbeats Pro might also be better if you want Apple-made buds made with fitness primarily in mind. Even so, the AirPods Pro offer a good overall mix of quality and comfort, and the pending upgrades might tip the balance if you’re already invested in the Apple ecosystem.

And if you want to studying using digital books, the basic ad-supported Kindle is available for $70 ($20 off).

The Echo Plus hasn’t been updated since 2018, but that’s not a bad thing. It produces a richer sound than the standard Echo without consuming much more space, and it can get your smart home started quickly thanks to its built-in smart hub and temperature sensor. The Echo Studio, however, is what you want if you’re more of a stickler for sound. We found it quite capable for the money, and it even benefits from high-quality audio services like Amazon Music HD. It’s just a question of whether you’re willing to pay nearly $100 more for the privilege.
