GM has revealed its various brands’ electric vehicle plans in its 10th sustainability report, and one of the most notable projects is Chevrolet’s BET Truck. Apparently, Chevy is working on its first full-size electric pickup truck, and it will have the capability to run over 400 miles on a single charge. That’s pretty much all GM revealed about it, and as Autoblog notes, it’s unclear if the EV will be an electrified Silverado or a new model altogether.

A rumor went around last year that GM will release its first electric truck in 2021, but it’s unclear if it’s this particular model. It’s also not clear if the truck mentioned in the report will be one of the 20 electric vehicles GM vowed would be on the road by 2023. GM made the commitment to roll out a substantial number of EVs by mid-2020s a few years ago in hopes that its brands’ lineup will be mostly electric come 2030. Earlier this year, the automaker announced that it’s investing $2.2 billion into turning its Detroit-Hamtramck facility into its first assembly plant that’s completely devoted to EVs.

Last year Chevrolet unveiled its long-anticipated mid-engine Corvette Stingray, which came packed with technology like wireless phone charging, NFC, support for over-the-air updates and a 1080p Performance Data Recorder. Delays and the coronavirus pandemic cut its inaugural 2020 model year production run short, but the 2021 version will have some upgrades that the company just announced.

While pricing and its 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 engine are staying the same, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard. The “driver-centric cockpit” with its fully digital instrument cluster now has a new driver mode on-screen visualization track digital tachometer (not pictured, sadly).

The automaker has shut down regular manufacturing across North America to prevent coronavirus infections, and doesn’t expect to resume production until it can “safely” get back to business. While the tweaked Bolt EV wasn’t due to arrive until later in 2020, a shutdown for several weeks or more could disrupt operations and create a knock-on effect for releases like this.

Not that GM is alone. Tesla recently had to stop work at its Fremont plant due to California’s shelter-in-place order, while Lucid Motors is delaying the unveiling of its Air EV. Like it or not, the future of transportation (along with other fields) is being put on hold until it’s safe for factory workers and engineers alike.

Higher end trim levels have an 8-inch screen in the instrument cluster, and there’s even an available 15-inch Heads-Up Display, standard on the High Country edition and available on Premier SUVs that even has a small 3×7-inch color display.

For folks in the back, an available rear seat entertainment option adds two 12.6-inch LCDs. They have independent HDMI connections to view different things at the same time, plus they have the ability to mirror Android phones, send content from one to the other, or allow riders to pick out spots on the map and send them to the navigation system up front. There’s also a bunch of USB ports and on most models, wireless chargers with charger cooling.

Safety and driver assist tech in these SUVs will include an HD rear vision camera that puts video right in the rearview mirror, automatic emergency braking and HD surround vision. There’s no word on pricing yet, but the new Tahoe and Suburban will go on sale in mid-2020.

The truck has a three-speaker sound emulator that mimics the two banks of a V8 engine in the back, and induction in the front. It automatically adjusts to gear changes, and can even emulate different engines that include a generic V8 as well as two versions of the LS7 Z28 (tuned for touring and the track). You can also choose a “futuristic” sound or plain silence if you’re more comfortable with electric power.

This isn’t a completely from-scratch design. Chevy borrowed both the power electronics and two battery packs from the Bolt EV. That saved the automaker development time, of course, but the independent arrangement of the batteries promises both more power and longer range. The company won’t say what that range is, but it’s safe to presume you’d have enough range to get home after showing off your ride at the local meetup.

It won’t surprise you to hear that there’s no plans make a production E-10. What you see here was up and running in less than five months. This does, however, illustrate the potential future for both electric crate motor tech and hot rod trucks. And this early experimentation might be necessary. When numerous governments both in the US and abroad expect to ban sales of fossil fuel cars in the next two decades, it may become increasingly difficult to source gas engines for hot rods.

As Jalopnik notes, the Menlo EV could be what would be called the Bolt EUV in the US. Just a few months ago, a report came out that Chevy is testing a utility-focused crossover that would be named the Bolt EUV once it hits the streets. Chevrolet will officially launch the vehicle at Chengdu Motor Show next month, where it will likely announce more information about it. Electrek says it’s expected to be available for sale later this year — in China, that is. It’s still unclear when the Bolt EUV will come out in the US and it will have similar specs.

More importantly, there’s a tangible roadmap. GM will start testing the Uptis in Michigan later in 2019 on a fleet of Chevy Bolts, and expects the finished version to reach production cars as soon as 2024. The automaker hasn’t named specific car models that will use the new tires.

The Uptis should have immediate financial and safety benefits. While it won’t be completely invulnerable, blowouts, flat tires and irregular wear would be things of the past. However, GM and Michelin see this as particularly important for a future where electric and self-driving cars are commonplace. Airless tech reduces the need for environmentally harmful tire production, and eliminates the need for a spare tire that adds weight and shrinks fuel economy. They’d also help autonomous vehicles drive around the clock without fear that a stray nail will ruin a trip. Don’t be shocked if this becomes the norm, if just because the expectations for cars themselves will have changed.

Chevy has talked about producing more electric crossovers besides the Bolt EV, and it now appears much closer to fulfilling that goal. Our sister site Autoblog has obtained photos and video of Chevy testing a more utility-focused crossover, rumored to be named the Bolt EUV, on public streets. It’s heavily disguised, to put it mildly, but you can see a more SUV-like design with a larger back and a more vertical snout. While the current Bolt is officially labeled as a crossover, the EUV would bet better-suited to grocery runs and family vacations.
