After a busy week of news, Acer isn’t quite done. The company has announced its Spin 7 convertible laptop, which is one of the first to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2. It supports both types of 5G, mmWave and sub-6, though it’s not the first notebook to do so.

On top of that, the Spin 7 has a 360-degree hinge, so you can use it in tablet mode if you prefer. Its touchscreen has a layer of Gorilla Glass for protection, and Acer claims the battery can run for up to 24 hours on a single charge. Acer hasn’t revealed pricing or availability just yet, but if you’re looking for a convertible laptop that can harness 5G, this could be just the ticket.

It’s the first Samsung notebook with a 13MP world-facing camera — if you thought people taking photos with tablets was annoying, just wait till they’re doing so with laptops. There’s a 720p front-facing camera too for all the Zoom calls you’ll be on until the end of time, along with a built-in S Pen you can use on the 13.3-inch Full HD touchscreen. At 1.26 kg, the Galaxy Book Flex 5G isn’t exactly hefty either.

The laptop should have a “more efficient battery life” this time around, according to Samsung. It’s unclear quite what that means in practice, though. Like the first model, the Galaxy Book Flex 5G has a 69.7Wh battery. Back in May, it said the original Galaxy Book Flex would deliver up to 20 hours of runtime. When Engadget ran some battery tests for our generally positive review, that figure was closer to 13 and a half hours.

That said, Evo-certified laptops are required to have fast charging support that gives batteries at least four hours of power after just 30 minutes of charging. Hopefully, that’s prompted Samsung to make some improvements on the battery front here. However, you might be in for a wait to find out whether that’s the case. There’s no word on US availability or pricing as yet.

This is the first Corvette with a hardtop, replacing the soft cover we loved so much last year on its 65th Anniversary Z06. It’s a sheet-molded composite roof that can be raised and lowered at speeds of up to 30 MPH, thanks to electric motors that replace the previous hydraulic system. It also stores above the engine, where the panels and heat shields have been placed to protect the roof from rising temperatures, and continue to keep the car’s naturally aspirated V8 cool at the same time.

Chevrolet claims that with the top up, drag will be about the same as in the coupe, with a similar top speed. Juechter told Autoblog that making the top optional only adds about 80 pounds to the car’s weight, with no additional reinforcements needed.

Naturally, we expect all the tech toys will still be in place: upgraded 1080p Personal Data Recorder, wireless charging, Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 and a “digital vehicle platform” that’s ready to receive OTA updates. Still, choosing a convertible 2020 Corvette over the coupe adds $7,500 to the price, and will mean waiting for production to start in Q1 of next year.

Despite shaving off more than a tenth of the computer, HP was able to build better cooling and thermals into the device. If you weren’t a fan of the lineup’s two-tone “Nightfall Black” and “Poseidon Blue” color options, the good news is that HP will offer the new model in a simpler “Natural Silver” color variant (pictured above). For the privacy-minded, there’s also a new kill switch on the side of the computer that cuts power to the webcam.

Internally, the x360 includes Intel’s latest 10th generation Core i5 and Core i7 processors. You can now also equip the computer with a new 4K AMOLED display that maxes out at a bright 400nits. The 4K display also includes DCI-P3 wide color gamut coverage, making it ideal for editing photos and video, as well as support for VESA’s new True Black HDR format. If HDR wasn’t already complicated enough on PCs, True Black HDR is technically a step below HDR 10 and Dolby Vision, but should still make games and video content look better. Complimenting the 4K display is an anti-reflection coating that HP says makes the screen more useable outside.

HP has also updated the X360’s LTE and WiFi modems. They’re now Cat 16 and WiFi 6 capable, which should lead to faster connectivity if you can find compatible networks. Moreover, the LTE modem comes standard with the computer, instead of being an optional add-on. As before, HP claims you can get 22 hours of battery life of its laptop. While it’s likely to fall short of that mark, with fast charging the X360’s battery is able to get back up to a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes.

The new 13-inch Spectre x360 convertible laptop will be available in October, starting at $1,099 for the base model with Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD. You’ll have to pay a $400 premium to get the top-end model with 4K AMOLED display. Upgrading to the more expensive model also nets you a Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD that’s complemented by a 32GB Intel Optane memory module. Best Buy will also carry the laptop when it becomes available later this fall.

Options can upgrade the 1,920 x 1,200 screen to a 4K panel in addition to a maximum Core i7 processor, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of solid-state storage.

We have yet to take a deeper look at the latest 2-in-1, but it’s promising. It not only addresses many of the concerns about the old model, but could even be an upgrade over this year’s standard XPS 13. The taller screen, larger keys and bigger trackpad should help productivity, while there’s more metal in the chassis than in any previous XPS laptop — it should feel as premium as it looks. We thought the regular XPS 13 was near-ideal as long as you weren’t looking for a gaming rig, and the 2-in-1 appears set to achieve similar results for the hybrid PC crowd.
