Beginning on October 13th, Google Drive is changing its Trash policies. After 30 days, files that you’ve trashed will be automatically deleted. Until now, those files have been stored indefinitely, unless you manually and permanently deleted them from Trash. There’s a good chance you’ll only be impacted by this change if you were using this odd policy to hoard files.

As The Verge notes, other Google products, like Gmail, already delete trashed files after 30 days. So this update will bring some consistency across Google’s products.

Waze users can now view their saved locations on the web and select them when searching for an origin or destination, so you won’t have to enter your home address for every trip. The new features are available on both iOS and Android devices.

These are relatively minor, but definitely helpful, changes. The ability to save trips across the web and apps is also available on Google Maps, so you could argue that the two are getting closer in terms of the features they offer. Though, as we learned last week, Google Maps is using DeepMind AI to improve its ETAs with traffic predictions. As far as we know, Waze doesn’t pack that level of AI tech.

It’ll be more useful for people who are paying for Google One — the base membership plan includes 100GB of storage for $2 per month, enough to make Drive, Photos and phone backups a lot more feasible. But regardless of whether you pay for Google One or not, it doesn’t hurt to have another option for backing up your phone. As before, paid Google One memberships include storage that you can share with up to five more family members, live customer support and various perks (right now you can get 10 percent back in store credit from the Google Store, for example).

The new Google One app for iOS will also include a storage manager, making it a lot easier to clean up the various data that might be eating up your storage. That’s already available on the web, but given how much we all rely on our phones these days, it’s a smart idea to have it available in the app as well. The new features for free users will be available on Android through the Play Store “in the coming days,” while the Google One iOS app will be “available soon.”

What’s more, the computing system, which is based on NVIDIA’s DRIVE platform, will be able to “automate driving of regular routes from address to address,” according to the release. The most intriguing future feature however will be over-air updates, enabling customers to buy and remotely install additional safety and convenience features, software applications, and subscription services for as long as they own the vehicle. This is similar to how Tesla sells its Enhanced Autopilot upgrades.

“We are excited to work with Mercedes-Benz,” Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA said. “Together, we’re going to revolutionize the car ownership experience, making the vehicle software programmable and continuously upgradeable via over-the-air updates. Every future MercedesBenz with the NVIDIA DRIVE system will come with a team of expert AI and software engineers continuously developing, refining and enhancing the car over its lifetime.”

“Consumers who are constantly on the go between work, play and passion projects want to be able to securely carry their content with them,” said Mike Mang, vice president of Samsung’s Brand Product Biz Team.

In addition to the built-in fingerprint scanner, the T7 Touch includes password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption. It comes in a sleek titanium metal case, in black or silver, weighs just 58 grams (about as much as two AA batteries) and holds up to 2TB of data. It also has a “Motion LED” so users can check the status of the device with a glance.

The T7 offers significantly more speed than its predecessor, the T5, which has consistently ranked among the best portable SSDs. The T7 Touch has a read speed of 1,050 MB/s and a write speed of 1,000 MB/s, making it almost twice as fast as the T5.

The T7 Touch will be available beginning this month in over 30 countries. Samsung’s suggested retail prices start at $129.99 for the 500GB. The 1TB version will cost $229.99, and for $399.99 you can get 2TB.

Work will start “immediately,” Volvo said. Staff from Volvo and NVIDIA will even share workspace at their respective headquarters in Gothenburg and Santa Clara. There’s no timetable for when you can expect to see the first fruits of the partnership on a road near you.

To some degree, this is about fast-tracking Volvo’s work to keep up with the competition. Waymo is testing self-driving big rigs, while a more direct rival like Daimler wants its autonomous trucks on the road within a decade. The NVIDIA team-up could save Volvo from doing as much work as it would if it had to develop systems largely from scratch.

Moreover, driverless trucks would simply be good business for Volvo. They can run around the clock without stopping for anything other than recharge or refill, and they’d be particularly helpful for mundane tasks like navigating some bus routes and offloading cargo. The sooner Volvo can get these vehicles on the road, the more trucks it can sell to companies that might have otherwise held back.
