Polite reminder that comic sans is an accessible font and Instagram introducing it is actually a v good thing

Former Microsoft typographer Vincent Connare created Comic Sans in 1994. Pulling inspiration from the lettering in comic books like Watchmen, Connare envisioned people using the font for informal documents and children’s books. As these things usually go, people and the internet had different ideas. At one point, someone even created a Comic Sans typewriter. 

However, for all the ways people have misused Comic Sans, Connare has no regrets about designing it. “The level of hatred was amazing and quite funny,” he told The Guardian in 2017. “I couldn’t believe people could get so worked up about a font.” 

You can check out all the new fonts by adding a text to a Story and then using the interface element that appears above the keyboard to switch between them. Unless you run an account dedicated to Doge memes, remember to use the font sparingly and tastefully.

The flaws exist in the Windows Adobe Type Manager Library, which allows apps to manage and render fonts available from Adobe Systems. Attackers may exploit the vulnerabilities by getting their targets to open booby-trapped documents or view them in the Windows preview pane.

Microsoft is still working to fix the vulnerabilities. The earliest it will issue a patch is likely April 14th. Microsoft typically releases security updates on Update Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month. In the meantime, there are a few workarounds, including disabling the preview pane and details pane in Windows Explorer. Microsoft has detailed the steps users should take here.

For years, Coachella’s opening weekend has been a huge event for YouTube. A weekend’s worth of livestreams don’t deliver all of the acts to your living room, but the site typically offers a lot of the big names so you don’t have to travel to the desert. Pitchfork explains how the festival is now designed just as much for the viewers at home in its review of the 2019 event. “Especially after Beyoncé’s Earth-rattling set last year, some stars and would-be stars lunged at the chance to make statements with their performances over the weekend, with productions designed to appeal as much to live streamers as to the crowd at Indio, California’s Empire Polo Club,” the site notes. And perhaps no one went all-in this year as much as Childish Gambino.
