“Samsung Electronics is aware of the case of the S10’s malfunctioning fingerprint recognition and will soon issue a software patch,” the company told Reuters in a statement. The problem has been deemed serious enough that an online bank in South Korea, KaKaobank, has advised owners to switch off fingerprint recognition until it’s resolved.

It’s not clear what’s causing the problem, but the Galaxy S10 uses an ultrasonic sensor to detect fingerprint ridges. Plastic or silicon screen protectors can stymie it, so Samsung has been recommending that buyers used approved protective devices. That doesn’t explain why the system is allowing access to non-registered fingerprints, however, so Engadget has reached out to Samsung for more information.

Samsung originally told UK publication the Sun, which first reported the issue, that it was looking into the issue. Until a patch comes, you could use Samsung’s face unlocking, but that has had its own issues. For now, maybe just use a good old code.

The One UI 2.0 OS features a blend of Samsung’s features like smaller notifications and “enhanced Dark Mode” that adjusts the brightness of images and text at night, along with Android 10 perks like the new Focus Mode.

The app is supposedly available for folks with an unlocked phone or a contract with Sprint or T-Mobile. To find out if you have access, head to the Samsung Members app and check for notifications. If you manage to get it, you’ll be far ahead of Galaxy S9 owners who wanted Android 9 “Pie” last year. That app didn’t hit beta on Samsung devices until November 2018, four months after it was released.

There’s not much new to say about the Galaxy Fold at this point. It’s a phone. That folds. It’s expensive. And it may or may not have a significant design flaw, depending on how you look at it. The only remaining question was: When can people buy one? The answer is tomorrow. Samsung just issued a brief saying that customers here in the US can pre-order the Fold starting Friday. The 5G version of the Galaxy S10 will open for pre-orders at the same time. We already knew that the Fold would go on sale in the US on April 26th, and a press release from T-Mobile, for one, confirms that’s still true. In its statement, Samsung added that the Galaxy S10 5G will ship here in the states sometime in May.

When we say expensive, by the way, we’re talking $1,980 for the Fold. As a refresher, the device has a 4.6-inch AMOLED display on the outside, along with a flexible 7.3-inch AMOLED screen when the device is unfolded. You’re also getting six cameras and Samsung’s Wireless Powershare technology for wirelessly charging other devices. Not bad, but then again: This is an experimental first-generation device that not even us reviewers have gotten to play with.

As for the 5G Galaxy S10, Samsung somehow still hasn’t mentioned a price, which is weird given the company is apparently hoping people will buy one as soon as tomorrow. For now, think of it as a higher-spec Galaxy S10, with a larger battery and a more advanced camera setup. Keeping in mind that the S10 itself starts at $900, that should at least put us in the correct ballpark.

The dissection also shows the stealthily integrated ultrasonic fingerprint reader, although it might be too well-integrated for DIY repair fans when you’ll likely have to replace the main display at the same time. And as clever as the hole-punch display may be, it’s relatively straightforward underneath.

Not surprisingly, the S10 isn’t what you’d call an easily fixable phone. In addition to that display, you’ll find a tough-to-remove battery and a USB-C port that’s no longer modular. If that doesn’t rub you the wrong way, though, you might appreciate the sheer amount of engineering involved in fitting everything into such a tight space.
