Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s edition of Summer Games Done Quick will be an online-only affair. The week-long charity speedrunning marathon had already been pushed back until August for coronavirus-related reasons, but organizers have conceded that it can’t go ahead as a physical event.

Although speedrunners and spectators won’t be coming together in person as planned in Bloomington, Minnesota, SGDQ will still take place from August 16th-23rd in support of Doctors Without Borders. The most recent major GDQ event took place in April, with a three-day stream in aid of COVID-19 relief efforts.

As you might expect, the coronavirus pandemic will also affect Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) 2020. GDQ is postponing the event. At the moment, it plans to kick it off on August 16th, where it will run until the 23rd. As with last year’s event, donations will support Doctors Without Borders. The change in schedule means a variety of dates related to the festival have shifted as well. You can find all the details on GDQ’s website.

Not surprisingly, Nintendo will be well represented this year with speedruns for multiple games from the Legend of Zelda series (including Breath of the Wild), Super Mario, Kirby, Metroid and even Punch-Out. However, you can also expect races through oddball titles like Catlateral Damage, Clustertruck and Divekick, not to mention newer games like Prey and the Resident Evil 2 remake. You can even expect a co-op run through Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, not to mention mysterious “bonus games.” The timing won’t always be convenient for live viewing, but there’s bound to be an extra-fast run through a favorite title.
