Perhaps unsurprisingly, the 2021 Geneva Motor Show, originally scheduled for March 4th through 14th, 2021, has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns. The decision was made after a majority of exhibitors said they probably wouldn’t participate in a 2021 show, according to a statement from the event’s organizers. The 2020 Geneva Motor Show was also canceled after the Swiss government banned gatherings of more than 1,000 people.

The Geneva International Motor Show is one of the largest car shows in the world, usually attracting 600,000 people and 10,000 journalists, according to the statement. The show’s cancellation dealt a huge blow both to the show itself and to the city of Geneva. GIMS is estimated to have an economic impact of more than 200 million Swiss francs per year, according to the statement.

Like many super-rare cars, Pininfarina is also playing up the craftsmanship and cosmetics. The Anniversario will be hand-built in Cambiano with a new Grigio Antonelliano color option, unique leather and Alcantara seats and loads of engraving and labels to remind everyone that you bought a special edition.

There’s just one problem: you probably won’t get it even if you’re rolling in cash. The €2.6 million (about $2.9 million) price tag is an obstacle in itself, but Pininfarina is also making just five examples of the Anniversario. If you’re fortunate enough to have the option of placing an order, it might already be too late. Otherwise, you’ll just have to ‘settle’ for one of the 147 other Battistas that will start reaching customers in late 2020. It’s a tremendous hardship, we know.

Previously, the company claimed the bike would have a city range of 110 miles. Now, Harley says, it’s good for 140, and it’ll have a mixed range rating of 88 miles, for those who occasionally zip onto the highway. While those numbers don’t beat Harley’s main competition yet, they’re still a welcome improvement.

Harley’s first electric bike will be faster than we thought, too. We knew the bike could accelerate from 0-60 mph in three seconds, but now, Elektrek reports the jump from 60 to 80 mph will take less than two seconds. You won’t have to wait long for a charge, either. The battery will go from zero to 100 percent in 60 minutes, thanks to Level 3 DC fast charging — and according to Elektrek, all Harley dealers who carry LiveWire will have Level 3 chargers on site.

The LiveWire will still run you close to $30,000, though, but for anyone who’s been tracking this, that’s not a surprise. If it’s not in your budget, Harley also has an electric scooter and dirt bike in the works, and those will presumably be easier on the pocket.

Even with these new numbers, LiveWire doesn’t quite keep pace with its most high-profile competitor, Zero. Also announced at the Geneva Motor Show, Zero’s new SR/F electric motorcycle boasts a range of 161 miles and comparable charging time. Plus, the price tag is $10,000 lower. Still, Harley is Harley, and it will undoubtedly have a loyal fan base, even if it built its reputation on loud, greasy machines.

[ad_1]

Announced at the Geneva Motor Show, Pirelli’s “Track Adrenaline” technology uses telemetry and tyre data to identify and tell the driver when it’s time to warm up tires, when they’re prime for a flying lap, and when it’s time to come back to the pits for a tire change. The system uses a GPS-equipped electronic box — fitted to the vehicle — and Pirelli’s P Zero Trofeo R tyres, which have sensors inside. All the information is relayed to the Track Adrenaline smartphone app, which also provides information on lap times, acceleration, braking and so on.

But here’s the rub. As Pirelli says in its own press release, the product is designed for “gentlemen drivers, professionals and driving schools,” so it’s not going to be cheap. Of course, the cost of the electronic box is probably negligible, but it’s only compatible with Pirelli’s own motorsport tires, and the whole set-up is designed to be used by people who can stump up for a track day, which is not most motorists.

Nonetheless, the system does point at something that will undoubtedly become more mainstream in the future. This kind of racing data was once only available to professional track teams, so it’s pretty neat that it’s now technically available to anyone. But as with most things, it’ll be the people with the big budgets that get it first.
