If you own a 2014 or later model Touring, Trike or CVO motorcycle and it’s equipped with the company’s Boom! Box GTS infotainment system, you’ll be able to install Android Auto on your bike by yourself or with the help of a dealership early this summer. If your motorcycle doesn’t have a Boom! Box GTS unit, Harley-Davidson sells as an accessory you can buy separately.

Moving forward, Harley-Davidson says all 2021 model Touring, CVO and Trike motorcycles with Boom! Box GTS units will ship with Android Auto standard. As with Android Auto in a car, you’ll be to navigate using Google Maps, access Assistant and control music playback as long as you connect your phone to the motorcycle’s infotainment system through a USB cable.

Harley-Davidson has supported CarPlay since about mid-2018, so the arrival of Android Auto is something of a long-overdue update. As Android Police points out, in the past it wasn’t uncommon for some people to replace the infotainment system that came with their motorcycle with an aftermarket unit.

“Temporarily stopping LiveWire production allowed us to confirm that the non-standard condition identified on one motorcycle was a singular occurrence,” the company said in a statement. Harley-Davidson didn’t go on to detail what the exact issue with the one motorcycle was.

Additionally, the company says current LiveWire owners can start charging their motorcycles at home again. When news of the issue first came out, Harley-Davidson told customers to only charge their motorcycles at official dealerships.

Customers who have already purchased LiveWires can continue to ride the bikes, but Harley says they should only be charged with the professional ChargePoint chargers available at its dealerships. Customers should not attempt to charge the motorcycles at home.

Harley has been talking about its electric bike since 2014, and it hopes that going electric will appeal to a new generation of motorcyclists. Still, since this is Harley’s first electric motorcycle, it’s a bit of a gamble, and a glitch like this is not something you want in a $30,000 purchase.

Harley-Davidson’s first electric motorcycle will soon hit the roads, and while the LiveWire will have a longer range than first expected, at 140 miles of city driving on a single charge, you’ll still need to hook it up to a charger once in a while. To help you save on electricity fees, Harley is offering free charging for US customers.

Previously, the company claimed the bike would have a city range of 110 miles. Now, Harley says, it’s good for 140, and it’ll have a mixed range rating of 88 miles, for those who occasionally zip onto the highway. While those numbers don’t beat Harley’s main competition yet, they’re still a welcome improvement.

Harley’s first electric bike will be faster than we thought, too. We knew the bike could accelerate from 0-60 mph in three seconds, but now, Elektrek reports the jump from 60 to 80 mph will take less than two seconds. You won’t have to wait long for a charge, either. The battery will go from zero to 100 percent in 60 minutes, thanks to Level 3 DC fast charging — and according to Elektrek, all Harley dealers who carry LiveWire will have Level 3 chargers on site.

The LiveWire will still run you close to $30,000, though, but for anyone who’s been tracking this, that’s not a surprise. If it’s not in your budget, Harley also has an electric scooter and dirt bike in the works, and those will presumably be easier on the pocket.

Even with these new numbers, LiveWire doesn’t quite keep pace with its most high-profile competitor, Zero. Also announced at the Geneva Motor Show, Zero’s new SR/F electric motorcycle boasts a range of 161 miles and comparable charging time. Plus, the price tag is $10,000 lower. Still, Harley is Harley, and it will undoubtedly have a loyal fan base, even if it built its reputation on loud, greasy machines.
