Red Barrels is moving in a different direction for its next Outlast game: namely, the cooperative multiplayer experiences you see with titles like Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th. It just used the PC Gaming Show to reveal The Outlast Trials, a co-op survival title set in a Cold War mind control research facility. There’s no gameplay to see yet, but you’ll clearly be running through creepy hallways as untold horrors chase you down.

The title arrives sometime in 2021. This might not be what you’re hoping for if you prefer the solitary adventures from earlier titles. It may be more appealing if you prefer to share your fright with others, though, and it’s a recognition that multiplayer elements have become popular even in traditionally single player genres.

Bloober Team, the spookiest game studio with the silliest name, is on a mission to create AAA horror experiences for the next generation of consoles, and it’s starting with The Medium. The Bloober crew debuted gameplay for its new psychological horror game during today’s Xbox 20/20 stream, where Microsoft dropped a bunch of trailers for titles heading to the Xbox Series X during its launch window this fall.

The Medium is a story about duality and death. It follows Marianne, a medium who exists in the physical and spirit worlds, as she investigates a vision that won’t leave her alone: the murder of a child at a resort. The hotel complex has since been abandoned, but Marianne travels there anyway and uncovers the terrible tragedies of its past.

It’s now clearer just how Supermassive will follow up Man of Medan and continue the Dark Pictures Anthology. The studio has released a trailer for The Dark Pictures: Little Hope that shows just what the decision-driven horror title will entail. You’re visiting the town of Little Hope, a town gripped by witch hunts in 1692. However, it’s increasingly clear that the witches are the least of your concerns. It’s possible that the witch hunters left their own sinister legacies, or that something altogether different is at work.

The clip doesn’t provide much insight into gameplay for the title, which arrives on PC, PS4 and Xbox One sometime tis summer. However, you can safely presume that many of the mechanics you saw in Man of Medan (and Until Dawn, for that matter) will carry over. That means life-and-death choices that will ripple throughout the game, a focus on conversations and, of course, lots of scares and gruesome moments. We weren’t keen on Man of Medan’s tank-like controls and pacing issues, but we wouldn’t rule out a more refined experience with Little Hope.

Resident Evil 3 was announced just three months ago, yet it will be out on April 3rd, so it feels like Capcom has been rushing the game to market, but the game has actually been in development for over three years. It seems like the publisher knew it had a hit on its hands while developing Resident Evil 2, which came out in January of 2019.

Capcom also announced an open beta for Resident Evil Resistance, a multiplayer game that comes free with Resident Evil 3. The game allows players to join a group of four “Survivors” or serve as the “Mastermind,” who sets traps to kill off the other players. The beta will run from March 19th until the game’s full launch alongside Resident Evil 3.

It’s certainly a good time to be a gamer. Despite the fact that the current generation of consoles is winding down, the hits seem to keep on coming. And the introduction of the PS5 and Xbox Series X will only bring more new experiences when they launch later this year.

“No gimmicks. No inventing something completely new. This is Amnesia,” said Thomas Grip, the studio’s creative director. At the same time, he says that the team has twisted expectations and refined the gameplay. The trailer makes it clear that the setting is pretty different compared to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which took place in a Victorian castle. Rebirth seems to take place in an underground tunnel system, likely in Europe.

Given the cult following of the original game, fans will likely be highly anticipating the release of Amnesia: Rebirth. While Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs was released in 2013, the game wasn’t developed by Frictional and was an indirect followup to the first game. Rebirth‘s announcement was made on the official PlayStation blog and the trailer includes PlayStation branding, so the sequel might be a PS4 exclusive — or at least a timed exclusive. The game will be out this fall.

The developer shared a short teaser that shows a few seconds of gameplay footage. Toward the end of the 42-second clip, we see an extreme close of a female character, presumably the eponymous Mara. As the camera pans to her side, we catch a glimpse of what seems like another character. In its other shots, the teaser is most reminiscent of the action and atmosphere of P.T. In fact, it seems Project: Mara will use the same minimalist approach as Hideo Kojima’s short-lived masterpiece. In a developer diary, Tameem Antoniades, the studio’s co-founder, said Project: Mara will feature one character in one location.

With Project: Mara, Ninja Theory is now officially working on four separate projects. In addition to a sequel to Senua’s Sacrifice, it’s developing a 4v4 team-based melee combat game called Bleeding Edge. Last year, it also announced Project Insight, an initiative the studio says aims to help gamers recognize and control their anxieties. Typically, four different projects at the same time would probably tax a studio to its limit, but it seems Ninja Theory’s new small teams approach is letting it explore interesting concepts sustainably. We’ll likely learn more about Project: Mara over the next couple of months.

It’s your job to investigate the mysteries while surviving turn-based combat in 1-bit black-and-white scenes.

Kozminski collaborated with Ubisoft scriptwriter Cassandra Khaw, who’s worked on games like Wasteland 3, Sunless Skies and She Remembered Caterpillars, and wrote the horror novel Hammers on Bone. “Her background and insight into horrific mindsets has helped me flesh out the unsettling nature of the mysteries, characters, and items you’ll find in World of Horror,” Kozminski says.

Steam Early Access will cost $14.99, and it will first support English, with more languages to follow. More characters, mysteries and events will be added for the 1.0 launch, a date for which has not been revealed.

Dickinson, For All Mankind and See also got early renewals. Apple ordered two seasons of The Morning Show right from the start, so its future won’t be up in the air for a while yet.

To some extent, Apple needs these early renewals. Although there are numerous new shows in the pipeline, Apple TV+ won’t have a large selection for a while. The continuation of Servant and other early shows will ensure that you have more to watch (and of course, keep that subscription going) even if you exhaust the next wave of shows.

The series premieres November 28th. It’s potentially one of the more important additions to the Apple TV+ lineup. In addition to being one of the first series to debut post-launch, it’s also Apple’s first thriller. And then there’s the matter of M. Night Shyamalan making a return to TV. His track record for producing movies has been hit-or-miss, to put it mildly, but he also hasn’t produced much in the way of TV shows — will Servant fare better? The trailer suggests it might, but Apple and Shyamalan will have a lot to prove with the full series.
