Respawn has shared a new gameplay trailer that details what Apex Legends players can expect when tomorrow’s the Old Ways event starts. The highlight of the two-week event is a town takeover mode called “Bloodhound’s Trials” that will put you and your squad against computer-controlled prowler monsters and other players. Complete the trials and you’ll get access to high-tier loot. One of the more interesting aspects of the mode is that Respawn has reworked part of the World’s Edge map to incorporate the arena where the trials take place.

As you might expect, Respawn is also adding a host of new in-game items for players to earn. You’ll be able to obtain these through Apex’s direct purchase shop a new prize track. All the new items are inspired by the Old Ways short Respawn shared at the start of the month.

While more than 70 million people have tried it, Apex is facing more competition than ever in the battle royale genre, with Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite and even a Bomberman-style game to contend with. So, restoring a map and a mode that folks care about should draw some players back in, at least for a while.

As for the Old Ways Lore Event, it runs from April 7th-21st. Some cosmetics will be available for a limited time and Legendary Hunt Skins will return to the direct purchase shop. Points and other items will be on offer through daily challenges.

You’ll be able to play a town takeover mode, in which you’ll battle prowlers (which might be familiar if you’ve played Titanfall) in a corner of World’s Edge. The aliens will drop high-tier loot when you defeat them, but you’ll also have to fend off rivals to claim the gear.

Less than a week before the launch of Apex Legends second season, two leaked trailers detail significant changes to the map. We knew the new season would included Wattson, an engineer character who thrives on defensive play, and the trailers provide a glimpse of Wattson in action. There’s also hints of a new hacker-themed character, Crypto. Perhaps most importantly, the clip makes one thing clear, “Kings Canyon will never be the same.” Certain areas have stabilized enough to support new growth forests, and there are new structures. Plus, the leak confirms that the Leviathans have indeed invaded the map.
