Twitch streamers are no strangers to DMCA music claims. Over the summer, the platform acknowledged a flood of takedown requests for older videos, which could’ve potentially put streamers in jeopardy of consequences under Twitch’s content policy. The company has offered a library of free-to-use tunes for years, but using a song from one of today’s popular artists could land you in hot water. Rapper (and streamer) Logic recently explained that several of his “gaming homies” have wanted to use his music on streams, but his label Universal Music Group (UMG) wouldn’t allow it. The song rights issue for Twitch changes a bit today as the company debuts Soundtrack by Twitch: a tool made specifically for the platform’s creators that should ease some anxiety about music choices.

Soundtrack by Twitch is in beta right now, but it offers over a million licensed tracks for use in streams. The library of available audio content includes songs from over 30 independent labels including Alpha Pup, Anjunabeats, Chillhop, DistroKid, EMPIRE, Future Classic, Monstercat, Nuclear Blast, SoundCloud and United Masters. While it’s unclear exactly which artists from these labels will be available on Twitch, their artists rosters include the likes of XXXtentacion, Young Dolph and Flume. Nuclear Blast is a big heavy metal label, with bands like Biohazard, Agnostic Front, Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Meshuggah and more. SoundCloud has already been working with Twitch to help musicians earn money from livestreams during the COVID-19 pandemic, so its inclusion on the list isn’t much of a surprise. Of course, Twitch is also angling Soundtrack as a way for new artists to get discovered when they’re featured on a stream. DistroKid, for example, is a self-distribution service that helps artists get their music on streaming platforms, so there’s plenty of aspiring acts there.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is officially official, but it’ll be a few weeks before Samsung starts shipping to the masses and we know some people just can’t wait that long. Since you’ve decided to click on this story, we’re assuming that means you, so why not join me and reviews editor Cherlynn Low this afternoon at 4PM Eastern/1PM Pacific — we’ll be cracking open a freshly delivered foldable and taking questions from straight from our audience. You get some answers and a first look at beautiful new hardware, and we get a better sense of what the people want us to focus on as we start working on our review. It’s a win-win!

There are just a few ground rules to keep in mind here. First, we’d love to hear from you in our chat, but be please be cool! Second, we won’t be drop-testing this thing on stream. This is our one review unit, and it’s in everyone’s best interest that it actually works while we’re evaluating it. Oh, and apologies to that one person who just keeps asking: We will not be tasting the phone. You know who you are.

Shroud was one of many high-profile streamers who jumped ship from Twitch in fall 2019, mainly to sign exclusive deals with Microsoft’s rival streaming platform, Mixer. He was one of the most prominent names on the list, alongside Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.

Microsoft unceremoniously shut down Mixer in July, less than a year after signing numerous multimillion deals with streamers. This left Shroud, Ninja and other big names up for grabs, and it’s been a waiting game to see where they all land. Facebook Gaming reportedly offered both Shroud and Ninja “almost double” the value of their Mixer contracts, though they both refused early on, according to esports lawyer Rod Breslau. He said Shroud’s Mixer contract was worth $10 million, while Ninja’s came in at $30 million.

Ninja still hasn’t announced any concrete plans, but he booted up his Twitch channel in early August and he streamed on YouTube in July. Ninja has 15 million followers on Twitch and 24 million subscribers on YouTube.

The livestream starts at 8PM ET / 5PM PT, and after that begins the “11 Days of Wozdom,” which is described as 11 days of challenges to win Apple gear, merchandise, a shout-out from Woz on Twitter and more. Right now, there’s no real details on what the challenges are — on Woz’s site, there are names for each day, like “bake a cake,” “dancing with the stars,” “happy place,” “Apple kindness” and so on. More details should be revealed during the stream, but USA Today reports that the organizers said the creative challenges will be focused on “happiness, creativity, ingenuity and fun.” Regardless, it’s a bit of fun frivolity in a time where such things can’t hurt, especially if Woz and Janet can raise some money for a good cause.

Samsung hasn’t been shy about the fact that it has a ton of devices to show us at its upcoming Unpacked event, and that day is finally here. You can get excited with senior mobile editor Chris Velazco and myself right here as we head over to YouTube for a real-time reaction stream with a post-show to share our thoughts (and insider info) after. Come watch with us! We’ll start the pre-show at 9:40AM ET and stick around for a bit after Samsung wraps its event. Despite the ton of spoilers that have already leaked, I’m sure we’ll still have a lot to discuss, so make sure you tune in!

Based on the sneaky silhouette that Samsung has shared, we can tell there will be at least a foldable, a Note phone, a watch and what looks like wireless earbuds. Thanks to the flood of leaks, we’re pretty sure we can expect these to be the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the Note 20, the Galaxy Buds Live and the Galaxy Watch 3. But Samsung might not go over every little detail in an event that’s probably going to happen at breakneck pace, so let us help you keep those specs in check and put everything in context. How will the new products compare against their predecessors? Have other companies already done this?

Not surprisingly, the massive weekend-long music festival Lollapalooza isn’t happening in Chicago this year. Perhaps also unsurprising is the fact that there will be a massive Lollapalooza livestream in its place. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Lolla2020 will take place over the same four days as the original festival, Thursday July 30th through Sunday August 2nd, but it’ll all be streaming on YouTube. Past Lollapaloozas have also been livestreamed on YouTube, but this is naturally the first that has no in-person event at all.

That said, there will be some live performances here — the Tribune says there will be new sets from H.E.R., Kali Uchis, Kaskade, Louis the Child, Vic Mensa and others as yet unnamed. Billboard also says that the show will feature the first Porno for Pyros performance in 24 years — the band is on the official lineup that was released today, and frontman Perry Farrell is the founder of Lollapalooza. In addition to these new sets are over 150 classic performances from over the years, including LCD Soundsystem, Metallica, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ellie Goulding, Run The Jewels, Lorde, Alabama Shakes, Tove Lo, Paul McCartney, Chance The Rapper, OutKast, Arcade Fire and others.

The Stadia library is seriously starting to take shape. Not only did Google just reveal that El Nino and indie smash hit Celeste are coming to the service, but during Ubisoft Forward this week, we learned more of that publisher’s titles are heading to Stadia too, including Far Cry 6. And guess what? There are even more games on the way to Google’s streaming platform.

You’ll learn about a bunch of them during the latest Stadia Connect, which is taking place today. You can expect to find out about some Stadia exclusives as well as some other third-party titles that’ll drop on the service in the near future. Google said back in January that it planned to add more than 120 games to Stadia this year, and we’ll learn more about its plans to round out that lineup during the Connect. You can watch it right here at 1PM ET.

Public fireworks shows may be in short supply this weekend due to the pandemic, but Rocket Lab is ready to fill the gap. It’s planning to launch its 13th mission, “Pics Or It Didn’t Happen,” from a complex on New Zealand’s Mahia Peninsula at 5:19PM Eastern with a livestream (below) available 15 minutes before takeoff. The launch window is open until 6:03PM Eastern. This is only the third Rocket Lab launch this year, due in no small part to the pandemic, and it includes some significant payloads.

The main payload is a Canon satellite, CE-SAT-IB, that will demo high-res and wide angle cameras for Earth imaging — if all goes well, this will pave the way for mass production. Planet, the company behind the largest network of Earth observation satellites, is also including five of its newest-generation SuperDove satellites. It’s also an important mission for the UK with In-Space launching its first Faraday cubesat mission to help startups and researchers get payloads into orbit.
