At the same time, Bike owners will be able to sign up to Bike Bootcamp, a series of classes that integrates bike work with strength training and total body workouts. That’ll be available to all members on September 15th and is taught by Peloton VP Robin Arzón, Jess Sims and Cody Rigsby.

The Peloton Bike+ will cost $2,495 and is available to order from tomorrow, with the existing Peloton Bike staying around as a more affordable option. The Bike will be priced at $1,895, and both machines will be available to try for 30-days as before, while finance options are available for $49 a month.

Peloton

At the same time, Peloton is adding a lower-cost version of its Tread treadmill, and shifting around the branding to make things a little clearer. The new Tread offers much of the same fine-grain control as its predecessor but in a smaller footprint, and at a lower price. The new features include a 23.8-inch touchscreen that can tilt through 50 degrees, making it easier for you to transition to floor work.

The new Tread measures 68-inches long by 33-inches wide, making it a nicer fit for smaller apartments and homes. Part of the smaller size is thanks to the deck, which no longer includes a front shroud — the big mount surrounding the front of the equipment. Peloton says that it makes the machine feel more like you’re running on a “natural road,” too.

The existing Tread, which is larger and packs a 32-inch display, has now been rebranded as the Tread+, to cement its upmarket status. It doesn’t appear that Peloton has done much beyond change the name, since it was already the Rolls-Royce of connected treadmills. When we tried it in 2018, we found that its rubber coated aluminum slat belt was one of the most comfortable we’d ever ran along.

And, for pricing, the Peloton Tread will set you back $2,495, with finance options available, while the Tread+ will be priced at $4,295. The new model will be available in the US and Canada at the start of 2021, while lucky buyers in the UK can get it on December 26th, just in time to sweat off all that turkey. Other European countries will get the Tread through 2021.

Plex started as a way to organize and stream your personal media collection. That’s still the main draw, though the company has also been experimenting with a free, ad-supported streaming service that doesn’t require you to download or rip a single file. Today, Plex announced that “thousands” of Crackle movies and TV shows have been added to its library in the US. The deal covers a smattering of blockbuster films including Captain Phillips and The Illusionist, as well as series such as Hell’s Kitchen, Snatch and Roseanne. It’s not the most captivating selection, but that’s because Crackle itself has always been a free service, with few originals to rival Netflix and other streaming heavyweights.

Plex

Plex launched its ad-supported streaming service last December. Warner Bros. was the first distributor to jump on board, bringing content from major studios such as Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), Lionsgate and Legendary. In a blog post, Plex teased that it’s “working on new partnerships” that will add even more freebies to its streaming catalog. It’s an intriguing play from the company, which has otherwise relied on Plex Pass for revenue. While the rest of the industry moves upmarket — commissioning massive shows to justify monthly subscription fees — Plex seems to content to strike deals with the players at the bottom of the pile.

It looks like Frozen 2 isn’t the only Disney property getting an early launch due to the current conditions of everything. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now available on most digital stores (Vudu, iTunes, Google Play, but not Amazon… yet) right now, several days before its March 17th launch date. It’s not available to rent, but you can buy it in up to 4K resolution, or opt for the $100 Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 9-Movie Collection.

Is it worth it? Despite a 51% Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics it did manage an 86 percent audience score, so there’s a chance you’ll be thoroughly entertained with how this third trilogy comes to an end. If not, at least you’re at home and you can easily flip over to something else, or just update the new lists on Vudu.

Amazfit HomeStudio has three components: a 43-inch HD smart mirror, called THE GLASS (all caps), JBL surround-sound speakers, and a treadmill. You get the pick of two: a premium model that uses slat belt technology (like the Peloton Tread) and can reach speeds of up to 12mph. If that’s too much for your wallet, or your home isn’t that big, you could opt for the AirRun, a foldable version that reaches a top speed of 9 mph instead. Rounding out the package is a 3D time-of-flight camera that the system’s computer vision will use to keep an eye on your posture and technique.

When you want to start a class, fire up the smart mirror at which point you’ll be able to access a library of 1,000 classes across a wide variety of exercises. And they don’t all have to be treadmill-based either, since you can participate in yoga, sculpt and stretching classes on the floor.

This is by no means the first product in this space, and there are already several smart-mirror based home gyms. Like Mirror, for instance, which is priced at $1,495 and offers workout videos from fitness experts that you need to follow along with at home. Similarly, Peloton makes a smart treadmill, with on-demand classes, albeit costing the better part of five grand, plus the monthly subscription.

Huami says that the price and release window of the Amazfit HomeStudio will be revealed soon, and that the price “will delight US customers.” Obviously, the only price point that would delight me is for it to be free, with a candy bar thrown in for good measure. But maybe I have a skewed sense of what delight means when we’re talking about high-end exercise equipment manufacturing companies.
