Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Polestar began production of the EV in China last month. It’s manufacturing the car on the same production lines that its parent company Volvo is assembling the Volvo XC40. The first Polestar 2 vehicles produced will be sold in Europe, with sales in China and North America after that.

For an additional $4,000, customers can get a leather interior and for an extra $1,200, they can upgrade to 20-inch alloy wheels. The Polestar 2 is the first production vehicle to come with Google’s Android platform for its infotainment system, so you can expect Google Assistant voice commands, Google Maps, EV charging support and apps via the Google Play Store.

The premium offering includes access to exclusive, ad-free podcasts from folks including Trevor Noah, Conan O’Brien, Hannibal Buress and Lena Dunham. You can also use Luminary’s app as a regular podcast player for shows from elsewhere, which the company describes as the free version of its service.

Luminary, which hopes to become the “Netflix of podcasts,” ran into some major issues right off the bat. Many big-name publishers pulled their shows from the free version of the service when it debuted in April. Spotify, PodcastOne and Barstool Sports were among those who stopped Luminary from using their shows, as did the team behind The Joe Rogan Experience, one of the most popular podcasts around.

There were other early controversies, including Luminary removing links from show notes on free-tier podcasts, depriving them of key money-making opportunities via sponsors and donation pages. Even now, Luminary’s web player requires listeners to copy and paste show note URLs instead of letting them clicking on links.

Also, the method Luminary initially used to add other podcasts to its free tier was said to have given publishers incomplete or inaccurate data, which might have made selling ads more complicated for them. Luminary saw leadership shakeups last year too, including the hiring of a new CEO back in October.

Rather than show upfront pricing for all trips other than Uber Pool, Uber will now show passengers in California a range of prices. The final price will be calculated at the end of the trip. Passengers will also be able to add drivers to a “favorites” list, and the company will eliminate some Uber Rewards benefits, like price protection on a route and flexible cancellations.

In its message to riders, Uber said, “These changes may take some getting used to, but our goal is to keep Uber available to as many qualified drivers as possible, without restricting the number of drivers who can work at a given time.”

Drivers will reportedly see more info, including trip time, distance, destination and estimated fare, and they’ll be able to reject a ride request without penalty.

Theoretically, giving drivers more control and being more transparent about fares may better prepare Uber for the repercussions of AB5. But critics note that the changes could cause drivers to reject shorter trips or refuse trips to certain neighborhoods, potentially leading to discrimination against lower-income areas.

In a statement provided to Engadget, Uber said:

“AB5 threatens to restrict or eliminate opportunities for independent workers across a wide spectrum of industries, including trucking, freelance journalism and ridesharing. As a result of AB5, we’ve made a number of product changes to preserve flexible work for tens of thousands of California drivers. At the same time, we’ve put forward a progressive package of new protections for drivers, including guaranteed minimum earnings and benefits, so voters can choose to truly improve flexible work in November.”

AMD just unveiled its new Radeon 5700 line of graphics cards with 7nm chips at E3 last month, and with just days to go before they launch on July 7th, the company has announced new pricing. In the “spirit” of competition that it says is “heating up” in the graphics market — specifically NVIDIA’s “Super” new RTX cards — all three versions of the graphics card will be cheaper than we thought.

The standard Radeon 5700 with 36 compute units and speeds of up to 1.7GHz was originally announced at $379, but will instead hit shelves at $349 — the same price as NVIDIA’s RTX 2060. The 5700 XT card that brings 40 compute units and up to 1.9GHz speed will be $50 cheaper than expected, launching at $399. The same goes for the 50th Anniversary with a slightly higher boost speed and stylish gold trim that will cost $449 instead of $499.

That’s enough to keep them both cheaper than the $499 Super RTX 2070 — we’ll have to wait for the performance reviews to find out if it’s enough to make sure they’re still relevant.
