That’s one of the gameplay elements Sucker Punch Productions <a href="https://www.engadget.com/watch-sonys-ghost-of-tsushima-state-of-play-special-here-at-4-pm-et-193024174.html">showcased</a> during Sony’s latest State of Play episode, which lasted 18 minutes and revealed more of what you can expect from the samurai action-adventure title.</p>
<p>The developer also showed the differences in Jin’s, the protagonist’s, fighting styles. When fighting as an honorable samurai, Jin can challenge enemies in a lethal standoff. But as a “Ghost” that’s willing to do anything to drive away Tsushima’s Mongol invaders, he can strike in the dead of night and use dirty tricks to his advantage.</p>

<p>Sony’s PS4 may be on its way out, but the forthcoming samurai adventure <em>Ghost of Tsushima </em>means it’s set to have a pretty magnificent swansong. And today, we’ll get an extended peek of its gameplay thanks to PlayStation’s latest episode of State of Play. In a <a href="https://blog.us.playstation.com/2020/05/12/thursdays-state-of-play-is-all-about-ghost-of-tsushima/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">blog post</a>, the company says we can expect a whopping 18 minutes of new gameplay footage, including exploration, combat and more — all showing off <a href="https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/12/12/ghost-of-tsushima-launches-on-ps4-summer-2020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sucker Punch</a>’s gorgeous open-world epic ahead of its release on July 17th.</p>
<p>There’s not been a lot of activity around the game since it was <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2018-06-12-ghost-of-tsushima-gameplay.html">first revealed</a> at E3 2018, although the ongoing coronavirus situation meant its original release date of June 26th was <a href="https://www.engadget.com/the-last-of-us-part-ii-ghost-of-tsushima-release-dates-ps4-162016029.html">pushed back</a> a few weeks. It’s set to be the PS4’s last major hurrah before the <a href="https://www.engadget.com/sony-hints-ps5-october-launch-130202403.html">PS5 arrives</a> later this year, and looking at the limited material we’ve seen so far, it’s not holding anything back. As such, PlayStation was mindful to note in its blog post that there definitely won’t be any PS5 news or updates in this episode — it’s all about <em>Ghost of Tsushima. </em>Catch the broadcast below at 1pm PT / 4pm ET.</p>

<p>As for specific titles Sony will focus on, the details are a little hazy. During the previous State of Play, it announced <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2019/09/24/last-of-us-part-ii-release-date/">a release date</a> for <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2019/09/26/the-last-of-us-part-ii-preview-hands-on-demo/"><em>The Last of Us: Part II</em></a> (which it later <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/24/the-last-of-us-part-ii-spring-2020-delay/">delayed to May</a>), so it&#8217;s not unreasonable to imagine Sony has some major announcements in store.</p>
<p>Last week, it emerged the <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2019/03/28/dreams-early-access-april-16th-ps4/">early access period</a> for <em><a href="https://www.engadget.com/2019/04/18/dreams-playstation-4-creators-early-access/">Dreams</a> </em><a href="https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/12/05/dreams-early-access-nears-its-end-nominations-open-for-impy-awards/">is winding down</a>, suggesting a proper release date for the game creation platform is on the way. There&#8217;s a chance there&#8217;ll be confirmation of the rumored <em>Resident Evil 3</em> remake, after purported <a href="https://twitter.com/Nibellion/status/1201854055179595776">cover art</a> emerged recently and Geoff Keighley <a href="http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/12/resident_evil_3_remake_skips_the_game_awards_fuelling_state_of_play_rumours">said</a> there won&#8217;t be any word on that front at this week&#8217;s <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2019/11/19/game-awards-nominees-death-stranding-control-untitled-goose-game/">Game Awards.</a></p>
<p>And then there&#8217;s the looming shadow of what may well be Sony&#8217;s last major first-party title for PS4, <em><a href="https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/14/ghost-of-tsushima-e3-impressions-interview-video/">Ghost of Tsushima</a>. </em>There&#8217;s been barely any news about that project <a href="https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/12/ghost-of-tsushima-gameplay/">since E3 2018</a>, but Sony <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/PlayStation/playlists">updated the YouTube playlist</a> for the game <a href="http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/12/sony_is_updating_playlists_for_ghost_of_tsushima_state_of_play">last week</a>, perhaps with an unlisted video.</p>
<p>Until now, Sony has typically held its State of Play events late in the afternoon, but you&#8217;ll have to be ready a bit earlier to catch the latest edition as it happens. The livestream gets underway at 9AM ET this morning. You can watch it below.</p>
