Back in May, Microsoft revealed that the upcoming entry to the Yakuza franchise will be an Xbox Series X and Series S launch title. Now, Sega has officially confirmed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon is coming out on November 10th, the same day the next—gen consoles are launching. The game will also be available for the PS4 and for the PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store on the same day, so nobody’s getting left behind.

Sega has also announced that the PS5 version is coming out on March 2nd, 2021. While that means those buying the new console can’t get the game as soon as the PS5 becomes available on November 12th, they can at least expect a free upgrade. If they buy the digital version for the PS4, they’ll be able to download the PS5 version at no extra cost when it rolls out to the PlayStation Network.

When it comes out on November 24th, Football Manager 2021 will the first entry in the popular simulation series to make its way to Xbox consoles in more than a decade. Sega plans to release the game on Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, with a single purchase getting you access to both the current and next-generation versions of the game. You’ll also have to chance to buy Football Manager 2021 on PC and Mac, where they’ll be available through Steam and the Epic Games Store.  

Sega says the Xbox release of Football Manager 2021 builds on the Touch version of the series — which the company has typically released on iOS and Android devices, as well as Nintendo Switch. But don’t worry, Sega says it’s fully optimized the game for Xbox controllers. The Xbox version will also support Microsoft’s Play Anywhere feature, allowing you to transfer your saves between an Xbox console and Windows PC. If you pre-order the game now through Steam or the Epic Games Store, you can get a 10 percent discount and early access to the game two weeks before its official release date.

Steam now lets you make a custom list of words you want filtered from your chat experience, Steam owner Valve has announced. The Steam Text & Chat Filtering feature already removes commonly used strong profanity and slurs, but now you can add specific words that you want to be replaced with symbols across Steam chat and supporting games. The feature is available through the Steam Labs beta program, but may be universal in the near future.

You can customize your filters by visiting your Steam account preferences, where you will find Community Content Preferences and the new Text & Chat Filtering settings. From there, you can enter words to always or never filter, either individually or through uploading a list of words. You can also opt out of filtering altogether.

It’s now no longer necessary to report individual cheaters, since we’ve been tuning our detection criteria we’ve noticed a large drop in cheaters – getting better!

At first, cheaters were removed after the round was over, but Mediatonic said it would take “more immediate action soon,” presumably kicking cheats out instantly.

And when Mediatonic discovered that some were using a Steam family-sharing feature to get around bans by creating new accounts and sharing with themselves, it disabled that loophole. Not only did that move block relentless cheats, it also proved that Mediatonic is committed to a sustained campaign of checks and balances.

A silver lining to all of the Fall Guys cheating has been players working together to sabotage unscrupulous individuals. But Fall Guys is a hard game for people to win, and players should be able to spend their time playing the game not serving vigilante justice. The fact that Mediatonic is working hard to remove cheaters from the game may help players get that elusive victory.

After a delay, EA Play, the subscription service formerly known as EA Access, will be available on Steam starting August 31st. The platform allows you to play Electronic Arts’ back catalog of titles as much as you want and check out its newest games before buying them. It also includes discounts on downloadable content. 

Some of the more notable titles that EA currently offers through the service include A Way Out, Star Wars Battlefront II and Titanfall 2 — the latter’s multiplayer recently found new life on Steam. EA Play starts at $5 per month, but you can also get a year of service for $30. EA also offers a Pro version of the service through its Origin PC launcher, which allows you to play the deluxe versions of its newest games — no need to buy them separately. EA Play Pro costs $15 per month or $100 annually. If you fancy yourself more of a console player, you can also access EA Play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. 

Hades has been a staple of Engadget’s living list of the best PC games, and it stands out as the only Early Access title to make the cut. It’s a roguelike romp through the bowels of Greek mythology — you play as Zagreus, son of Hades, in an attempt to escape the Underworld (and dear old dad). Zagreus fights upward through the levels of Hell with assistance from ancient gods and tragic figures including Zeus, Aphrodite, Sisyphus and Eurydice.

Though Hades is a roguelike — meaning players start from the very beginning with each death — ability and weapon upgrades persist across runs, and levels are randomized.

Since the release of Bastion in 2011, Supergiant Games has established itself as a solid indie studio with a flair for rich, hand-drawn science-fiction and fantasy settings. It released Transistor in 2014 and Pyre in 2017. Hades is its fourth title.

Since this is going into the Fall Guys final-round rotation (sorry), there should be less likelihood of you getting the frustrating Royal Fumble as the finale. Mediatonic is also lowering the weighting for that level, so it’ll appear as the final round a bit less often.

The patch includes a bug fix for the final-round stage Fall Mountain too. Players were sometimes unable to grab the crown to win the match, but that should soon be a less-frequent issue. In addition, Block Party will have more collisions to prevent players from bypassing the blocks. Until now, perching on the side wall and watching everyone else scramble to survive has been a viable strategy, but perhaps that won’t be the case anymore.

Among the other bug fixes are ones for “physics behaving erratically at high framerate on levels like Tip Toe,” display issues for player names with special characters and controller detection on PC. Mediatonic, which also said it’s getting better at catching cheaters, promises there’ll be even more levels soon, along with additional features and costumes.

Besides its exclusives, something PC gamers have consistently criticized the Epic Games Store over is its less robust feature set than Steam. Mod support was one of the big ones. The Steam Workshop allows you to download, install and manage modifications easily. And for all of the things Steam could do better, mod support is one thing it absolutely nails. The fact the Epic Games Store didn’t have a mod manager before today was a notable absence.     

But like with many other features, Epic has done a good job of slowing narrowing the gap between the Games Store and Steam. Some of the more recent features Epic added to the marketplace include achievements, cloud saves and, most notably, self-serve refunds.
